@ResurgentIran

Haha, I loved your first and second sentence. You just described me on this and the past semester. PDF, Facebook etc. to the rescue.

19 hours. Holy…. That's impressive. Really is.

Yeah, my routines are similar although I do read the curriculum books and sometimes look into the books that are mentioned in the references if they are helpful or studies.

How important are grades when studying medicine? I mean for instance when studying law grades are quite important while they are not as important when it comes to engineering. But again it depends on your level of ambition etc. Having good grades for me is important because I want to be able to work across the world if necessary and try to enter ARAMCO that my father worked for until recently. So I do have a bit of pressure. Also I am not that fond of getting bad grades. Not a horrible loser in general/bad loser but when it comes to grades it annoys me if I don't get the grade I want.

In Medicine grades does not matter. Well maybe they matter if you want strive for doing research and getting certain degrees like Ph.D. But if its just for job, the employer never looks at the grade.
When Neurology department hired me, they didnt care about my grades. Just documentation that Im an active student and that I have passed the semesters. I dont have very good grades, so it didnt matter. lol

On the other hand its much easier to get a certain attractive job if you have Ph.D, so indirectly grades matters in some situations I guess. :)

Resurgent, are you studying to become a neurologist?

Not really. I havent decided yet what I want to specialize in. I may end up a GP, like my parents. lol
Although I have always found Neurology to be really interesting and bit of a dream-job.

However I do have to study Neurology this semester, because I got a 10 week summer job as Neurologist.
Sacrificed my entire summer vacation, but at the same time its a pretty awesome opportunity.
If I like it there, maybe I will decide and opt for Neurology afterall. :)

I do find neurology interesting. You should go for it.

Doing scientific work on diseases such as cancer, aids etc. is also very interesting I imagine.

Neuroscience as well. My sister is "just" a GP as well but she "plans" to enter neuroscience. At least that's her dream.

The brain is seriously a very interesting organ, LOL.

I have great respect for GP's. Perhaps even more so than a specialist.

I saw an ENT doctor who knew very little other than ENT.

Whereas my GP is amazing. She sits there and digs up all this info from the back of her mind. Stuff about different medicines too, how each work etc. I always test her too  she's never got anything wrong.

Neurology would be fascinating though.

Do you think you'll go back to Iran once qualified? more money to be made somewhere like the US?

Nah Im probably gonna stay in Scandinavia. Better stability and quality of life here than Iran.

Im not sure about GP. I have great respect for them as well, because they are so damn knowledgeable.
But I hear stories its so much work, more than usual. And its also about the kind of patients that come.

There are many patients that just come to get sick-leave for the most trivial issues. My father think they are such parasites and cant stand them. He has lost his temper once in a while and gotten into a bit of confrontation with some of his patients, because they were lazy useless bums. LOL

Off course it can be interesting as well. :)

All well here. If we look past me spending too much time on PDF, Facebook etc. instead of studying. How about you?

How about life extension? Is that not an interesting field as well? @ResurgentIran

Are you referring to attending physician statements? Indeed people are almost throwing them at you in Europe. Especially in Denmark from what I have seen. Anyway the doctors get paid for it so it is in their interests one can say but people definitely misuse it and the doctors know all about it.

My mother is a doctor too but she works in the dermatology sector. She worked in Europe as well. She told all kind of stories.

I had an exam this autumn and got sick and was afraid that I would get kicked out because I thought that the doctor would not give me an attending physician statement but to my surprise he nearly threw it at me once I mentioned that I needed one because I could not attend my exam.

Can't remember, LOL.

Yeah, it's better for you to focus on your studies and your real life. By next week I really have to quite PDF until June or so. I mean my appearances must become rare otherwise I am not going to make it. The studies are hard so. Can't disappoint people. Lack of discipline or not.

Ah, I thought you were in the US.

Yep, my GP says it's very hard work and you get all sorts of patients who sometimes just have minor ailments like a slight cough but insist on seeing a doctor. You just have to keep smiling though.

There are a lot of Iranians in Scandinavia. It seems to be the route they take. You know my ex-brother in law is Iranian. He got into a bit of trouble with the authorities in Iran because he was a student activist. He had to flee and ended up in Sweden.

He then opened up a kebab shop

He's now a qualified social worker!
