‘Major surprises’ expected in talks with militants, ISI

Peace talks between govt and Taliban faltering: official
Reuters (35 minutes ago) Today

ISLAMABAD: Exploratory peace talks between Pakistan and al Qaeda-linked Taliban insurgents have made little progress, a senior security official told Reuters on Thursday.

The official said the group, seen as the biggest security threat to the strategic US ally, had flatly rejected a demand that it work through tribal elders to reach a deal whereby fighters approach authorities and lay down their arms.

"They felt it would be humiliating. The talks are not making progress," the official said. "If they want to be included in the political system, that is what they will have to do."

That is the minimum that could be expected ...

It is just parliament, not the house of Allah.
If other people from the committee could go, why did you alone had problems?
Time to unclench your butt cheeks and behave like you should.

ISI briefings happen in at the ISID in ISB because of the fact that its a "clean environment" and chances of leak are very limited. To try to do the same at the Parliament is not only difficult, but also very disruptive. So what the Professor sahib asks for is a symbolic gesture while ignoring the needs of the ISI to keep its disclosures private.

I don't see any guarantee from the Taliban that they are planning to stop their attacks on our forces. Suicide bombings and attacks have continued constantly despite the knowledge that peace talks are being conducted on the sidelines.

It's obvious they're foreign funded.. drone attacks have stopped, relationship with US has got significantly worse, no transit for NATO. Yet, still. This ploy by CIA/RAW has been and will be unsuccessful though. Their paid mercenaries are on their last feet.

Whatever the case we need a permanent end to this insurgency. For that we must go into South Waziristan again and hunt Hakimullah Mahsud down the chief of the Taliban.

We constantly hear they are on their last feet but they keep striking striking and striking. Is there any end to the suicide bombings. No one can sacrifice its people everyday like this. It has to end. And if they are foreign supported the answer is simple. Go and crush them. What are we waiting for?

Lets make serious efforts this time to get the commanders because Fazlullah escaped us despite the sucess of blackthunderstorm. Hakimullah escaped despire Rah e Nijat. We need to get the top commanders if we want to kill off this insurgency.

a very stupid way to show “defiance” to the “generals” ( a term sometimes used in a derogatory way to describe the military).
ISI’s request to hold such meeting in their premises was in no way attacking the “sovereignty” and supreme authority of the parliament and senate.

Such opposition was just for the sake of opposition. Just shows how serious some members of the committee are with the investigation and the probe.

they must disclose all international donors and supporters if a deal is made
