LTTE have got western support (USA, UK etc. etc.) due to the fact that Prabhakaran was converted to the Christianity and LTTE cadre don't allow people to follow Hindu rituals in their territory.

For starters, did any of you folks know that the Tigers were initially formed by 4 lawyers who took a holy agni(fire) oath in front of the Shiva temple at Thirokonamalai(trincomalee)? Prabakaran had a Hindu wedding in an Indian Hindu temple(there are pics to prove it). Furthermore, did you folks even listen to the first reason he gave, when asked why he decided to fight for freedom?

However, even though his personal views were Hindu(as he was one), the organization was a secular one. The story he is a Christian is spun by the Lankan government which tries to gain some mileage from it.The lankan government is virulently anti Hindu/Tamil and actively engage in the destruction of Hindu temples and way of life in the Island .
They have also taken over many Hindu temples and made them into military camps...and even took them apart to build their bases.
The ancient Thirukoneshwara temple(Mentioned even in the Ramayan) sits atop the Kokarna mountain...Now the Lankan government has built a Huge Buddhist Vihara there, and claimed it to be a Buddhist place!
The Lankan conflict has a decidedly religion tone to it; from the Lankan government's side; as they are virulently anti Hindu. Just listen to what the Monks who are in the Parliament say about Hinduism and Hindus in General..
But, the situation have changed they have to buy their time.
If Sri Lankan govt continue with their anti humen right mission it will further aliniate Tamils and if Sri Lanka plays china card too hard on India and don't listens to India, then You never know.
