The First Aircraft Institute of the Aviation Industry Corporation of China has been designing the first generation long-range stealth bomber for the People's Liberation Army Air Force since 2008, a report from the state-run China Aviation News stated.

Senior Colonel Wu Guohui from the National Defense University in Beijing told the China Aviation News that the stealth bomber has two advantages on ballistic missiles. The first one is that ballistic missiles can only be fired once, while a stealth bomber can be launched multiple times. The second is that ballistic missiles cannot return to base, as the stealth bomber can, if a mission is aborted.

As the United States has decided to invest US$1.2 billion a year to develop a new stealth bomber to replace its Northrop Grumman B-2 Spirit, Wu said that it is time for China to have its own stealth bomber. Conventional strategic bombers such as the B-2 and the Chinese Xian H-6 are both easy targets for enemy fighters and anti-aircraft missiles to attack. Russia is also designing its new-generation long-range bomber to compete against the United States and China.

Currently, the United States is the only nation in the world to actually design and operate a stealth bomber. Three types of long-range stealth bombers — the Lockheed A-12, the Lockheed F-117 Nighthawk and the B-2 — have been developed in the history of US military aviation. Today, the B-2 bomber is the only manned stealth bomber still in service. For this reason, China considers the development of a long-range stealth bomber as a breakthrough for the nation's aviation industry.

China is now the only country in the world except the United States and Russia to develop a medium-range or long-range stealth bomber. The Xian Aircraft Industrial Corporation and the Shenyang Aircraft Corporation began conceptualizing the project more than a decade ago according to the report. At the beginning of the 21st Century, the Aviation Industry Corporation of China took over the project and continued the development of China's own stealth bomber.

30 year after Deng Xiaoping's open door policy China has more resources than ever to complete this project, according to China Aviation News. Although upgrading the H-6 bomber can act as a stopgap for the People's Liberation Army Air Force and Navy Air Force before China introduces its real stealth bomber, the report stated that it will not really help the nation to establish a real strategic air force to project Chinese influence aboard.

They can design all they want……but in reality, no engine------no plane.

But the thing is, they do have engines.

Their WS-10A has been serving quite nicely for years now. They are also developing many engines simultaneously, some of which have been successfully tested in the prototype stage.

.
WS -10 is still in testing stage. here, we are talking bout long range???

Hundreds of WS-10s and variants are in use(J-11B、J-11BS、J-16 etc) 。

WS-10 without afterburners(WS-20 etc)are quite suitable for long-range bombers。

China is in the midst of developing many aero engines, including the WS-15 which shall be ready around 2020.

It takes years to develop a strategic bomber. By the time the maiden flight is carried out, China will have cured the only weak link in its defence industry chain.

In a couple of months the State will prove a 100 billion yuan worth national engine development programme that lasts till 2023.

They are already in service with J-11Bs, J-15s, J-16s, and J-10B prototypes. A non-afterburning variant would be used aboard the bomber.

If u had a working engine, why sell pakistan a fighter with RUSSIAN THUNDER (rd-93).

The production capability of China's engine manufacturers is not up to par. The limited amount of engines and spare parts are used by the J-11B and J-15, these jets have priority, even the J-10Bs are not allocated any WS-10s.

In the future when we Can produce as fast and reliable as the Americans could, then we can sell engines, until that time, we have to resort to foreign engines.

An aircraft is not meant to use any kind of engine available; some can't be fitted onto certain aircraft.

ur too funny, please educate yourself with the process. I'm outta here, too busy watching Kohli and Dhawan beat OZ behind.

India scare to enter an arm race with China, a starving nation want to avoid an arm race as much as possible. China best strategic move and force India hand to spend more money on their defense budget.

But China is also not into building up its defense. It only care about making more money and grow its economy.

Ignorant people, ignorant thinking.

RD-93 is a much smaller engine. While China emphasize on bigger engine for medium and heavy weight fighter. What does RD-93 engine got to do with China with a working bigger WS-10 engine?

Then I ask you how many JF-17 inducted into PLAAF? None. So do you think we care about JF-17 got a working domestic engine anot?

On Topic: I think this bomber will take some time before it gets inducted.
