Lockheed Martin offers F-16 Block 70, for India, from India, exported to the world

"india will get F-18/F-16/Gripen/Su-35/etc"= a total waste of bandwidth.

It's not anymore. Maybe in the last government, sure. But some of the small hints the MoD is putting out, as well as some quotes from heads from LM are telling. MoD is seriously looking at another production line, outside the Rafale.

Lockheed Martin is in discussion with companies in India with a view to establishing a joint venture (JV) in the country in support of its proposal to locally build its F-16 Fighting Falcon.

The proposal, which rests on an Indian decision to procure the aircraft, is intended to support New Delhi's 'Make in India' programme and the deepening defence alliance between the United States and India.

A Lockheed Martin spokesperson told IHS Jane's on 5 August that a JV model "with Indian industry as prime owner" is thought to be the best method to produce the F-16 in India.

Lockheed Martin did not disclose potential industry partners but they are certain to include Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL), with which the US corporation already has close industrial ties and an existing JV to produce aerostructures for the global C-130 transport aircraft programme.

The spokesperson said, "We are in discussions with all of our F-16 suppliers with the common objective of maximising F-16 production in India across the F-16 production spectrum. Those discussions are ongoing, both in the US and with multiple industries in India."

She added, "Discussions between [Indian] industry and the government are ongoing to determine the various elements required to transfer F-16 production to India."

Outlining some details about the local production programme, which was first mooted earlier this year, the spokesperson confirmed, "Lockheed Martin is offering to move the one and only global F-16 production facility [in Fort Worth, Texas] to India."

She added that the proposal features a "phased process [that] would begin with final assembly and quickly move to structural manufacturing and production of the myriad parts that encompass the F-16 from nose to tail".

"F-16s produced in India would be operated by India and available for global export from India.

How Mig-35 is better ? If F-16 is available with TOT, it can be incorporated with systems of choices. Which can be even better than Mig-35, it would be all India's own choice.
Running costs/Maintenance of F-16 is far more easier and cheaper than Mig-35.

Above all, only the psychological effect on PAF would be huge. PAF would has gotten a lower version of that jet as their best horse.

Isse accha to Mig-35 hi le lete. :(

but we are tackling them better...

that what u think, today US needs someone against china, and India forgot, India never able to compete china in any field, and china in retaliation helping Pakistan, and i think in next few years, Pakistan will be threat to India.

If India gets complete ToT including on engines, avionics and software codes then this is probably a better deal than anything India can get from the French.

This way, India doesn't only get an extremely potent platform, that can probably take on Rafael and hold its own, but also the opportunity to sneer down at PAF. Now that is a good deal!

Its for the 32nd time Indians are posting same thread on same topic..!!
reminds me of the hoopla created to celebrate the un hatched Su35 egg for PAF.
the only difference between IAF-F16 and PAF-SU35 is that the former has more chances of happening than the latter.

Not even a single word from MoD or IAF... These companies jumping up and down

 well well well I really need to know how much LM guys invested in lobbing and PR stuff !!!!!!!

Well they surly taking over the Saab guys now. ;)

According to an ex-wing commander at the Indian Air Force and former chief spokesperson for the Defense Ministry.Localized production of the US F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft may help India substitute its obsolete fleet largely depending on the Soviet MiG-21 fighters as the long-awaited deal on the Rafale fighter jets between Paris and New Delhi is stalling, Praful Bakshi, an ex-wing commander at the Indian Air Force and former chief spokesperson for the Defense Ministry, told Sputnik on Saturday.

For a number of reasons none of the above are viable for India, it has been discussed (to death) on this forum and on the Rafale sticky thread.

Not a chance. The Rafael deal has bee reduced to 36 only due to lack of finances and IAAF has been asked to consider LCA in big numbers for being economical.

Iaf is in no position to consider F16 as replacement for mig21. It will be a financial nightmare.
rafale , PAKFA & Super sukhoi are for north - north eastern theater eastern where we need 850Km + combat radius while upgraded Mig29-M2K-Jags-Tejas & F16 Blk70/72 -AMCA are for western theater where we need 350-600Km combat radius

rest keep speculating

@Abingdonboy

It doesnt matter what you, or anyone has discussed to death in the Rafale thread. If you dont want to take seriously some of the snipbits of what the MoD have been saying of late, or what some of the reps have been briefed, you're going to be in for a rude awakening when something outside the Rafale also gets choosen.

But i hope, we should skip this offer... too many platforms is a burden... nothing left to upgrade further...

this could be a future India structure

Pak-FA= at least 120
Super 30= at least 300
Rafale=at least 64
F-16 blk 70= at least 200

scrap LCA, sell Mirage 2000 and Mig-29. retire Mig-21,mig-27, and SEPCAT.
