Persian was widely used in Medieval India many things native to India were given Persian names like Tritantri Veena got the Persian name Sitar. So, I don't think Persian name can be taken as proof.

Sitar is a Persian invention as well.

Persian invented the Setar which sounds nowhere similar to any kind of Indian Veenas. Tritantri Veena(Three-Stringed Veena) has three strings, so Medieval musicians renamed it with Persian name Sitar otherwise Tritantri veena(Sitar) is not a Persian invention.

I don't have dual citizenship.. I'm a naturalized Australian so are my immediate family including my parents.. I migrated as teenager but my ties to Lanka is still very strong.. I recognize myself as an Australian of Ceylonese descent

It depends how well one is assimilated in to the society they live in

Oh we are pretty well assimilated in the Australian society. In fact, a couple of my close family members are married to Aussies & when I say Aussies, I mean "Aussies" and not just white Australians.
