Learn from China: Malaysian ex-PM tells India

How much the govt doing to educate the masses? Why can't they publish a full page advt explaining this decision instead of vested interests taking advantage of the situation.

Anyways I am not a great fan of malls. The less the better. Nothing can beat the shopping in a Bazar experience.

Its not about having more malls. The economy has slowed down to below 7% from an average 8.5%. The nation is in dire need of foreign money. We need FDI in whichever form it may come in. Not necessarily in retail. We can NOT afford to miss this opportunity to bring the economy back on track.

well, to some extent mahatir has got a point if you see the latest pace @ which this whole FDI issues is dragging on where nobody seems to be agreeing in a way out of this deadlock , then there is the question of team Anna & management who just cant seem to get one lokpal bill to his credit frankly speaking @ this stage only one option comes to mind but i don't know why my Indian friends are so allergic to the late Indira Gandhi's policy anyone on her place would do the same thing whats so wrong with it hey emergency was just an temporary measure to clean things up & get the system straight but sadly they dint even give it a chance to complete its duration then to be fair how can one Criticize it ?

But sorry Chinese brothers, gotta say.. Youtube, Facebook, and Twitter are the best inventions of the internet. You're missing out :P

yes,I used to use them, they were banned only couple of years ago, before you had no problems viewing them, even you,you can easily use proxy to view them ,there are tons of foreigners in China using proxy.I dont really bother cause Chinese version of those websites are better indeed. microblog, renren especially 优酷,you can watch latest high clarity full movies on that,no like youtube, most of them you can just watch a short part.most Chinese people dont really care those websites cause they dont use them anyway.

FDI is more than welcome, but not at the expense of livelihoods of the common Indians. I think the current issue is about FDI in retail which will affect a lot of small shopkeepers. If Govt indeed needs some FDI pls sell off the PSU white elephants like Air India and other loss making enterprises.

As a die hard democrat I would chose this one.I firmly believe that selecting better leaders can lead to better condition for the country. Anyways India is a an old nation but a very young democracy. People sometimes are expecting the same results from our democracy as that of other successful western democracies which took more than a century to perfect itself.

Democracy itself is a flawed system. It's pretty much mob rule is a pretty package, which is why India is having problems with it. The system depends on the mob(masses) making the right decisions in putting people into power and making the decisions in policies affecting the whole country. Which is quite shaky in India's current social state where you actually expect the majority of the farmers and illiterates that are easily swayed to have enough foresight to make decisions that have long lasting effects on the country. You can't run before you can walk.

I read about that, government took every steps to keep interest of small shopkeepers, those people are fearful of competitions and not about destruction of their livelihood.

It's shameful that Youtube be banned in China anyway. But the ban is nothing to do with CCP as you said.

Sir, drop your individual rights & privilages and move away from democratic Canada.

The notion that retail FDI will affect small shop keepers is far fetched. Only 4% of Indian retail is organized, rest 96% is still ruled by small kirana shops. And more over these Giant retailers like Walmart & Tesco are coming to prime locations in metros only, where small shop keepers dont exist anyway

With less democracy there will be more corruption, unfortunately.

But Indian people are trying to get the system changed. Wait for a few weeks, there could be some news on that front.

The fear is that the big chains will use their money power to try to corner the the market by directly procuring from the farmers.

Canada is different from India though. Canadians on average are highly educated and socially conscious, that's why democracy works here while it struggles in 3rd world countries where if you ask some farmer what Corporatocracy they would go crossed eye. It's true democracy has it's failings, between the habitual lying of the politicians and the idea that one portion of the population can force it's will on the other(which is not individual rights but majority rule), I do hope Canada moves on to something better.

India is still a country where the rich can buy votes and the poor are willing to sell. You can even pay to have your opposition threatened or silenced, this not an environment where you can have a true or meaningful democracy. Democracy only flourishes when you have the proper social constructs, without them it could be a hindrance. Even democracy itself is a flawed system, it literally translates into mob rule, which is incompatible with personal liberty, but that's another discussion.

i think u don't know abt voting process in india. no one can know who has voted for whom. many ppl do take money from both sides but in the end it is their choice because they know no one will get to know for whom they have voted.
