From the Rafale deal and recent talks about squadrons number of IAF and availability, it seems like LCA mk2 has become a crucial life saver for IAF to maintain numeric superiority. I hope NaMo and ManPar give big size bamboo behind ADA guys for completing it fast. Their 2022 timeline is simply not enough.

With its AESA, low RCS and integrated EW, mk2 will be a punch!!

HAL Tejas MK-2 with 5-10 % reduction in drag, higher TWR, more stealth, kickass integrated EW suite, better cockpit can sure be a winner.

HAL Tejas MK-2 will carry formidable weapons, will be difficult to find and get a fix on and will be able to pull numerous routine patrols.

#RafaleAftermath Those who ignored Tejas is now hailing it! Honey extracted at home better than one bought from market. Thank You @PMOIndia

No one knows a single thing about the fighter jet, no one knows its internal fuel/weapon capabilities or its engine specs etc. etc. and the fact that the DM said "light, single engine aircraft" still leaves the door open for SAAB/Gripen.

What this fighter needs is some faith and exports, once an export order comes in then inevitably a few more will follow and morale will be boosted significantly.

Afghanistan and Vietnam are likely customers other Asean countries like Indonesia have also expressed interest.

True, but what I think is GoI must force IAF to buy LCA in large number. They got a habit of buying the bests from others country so much so that even PAK FA somewhat is not meeting their expectations.

Lets not count the chickens before they hatch.

The chickens are already out but they need time to grow up. AESA and integrated EW are also getting ready. DefMin must push hard for this.

Are you sane?? How could you export a Fighter Aircraft which is not used in its own country. IAF has allergy towards domestic products.

Export orders will come only when IAF will OWN TEJAS and INDUCTS IN NUMBERS.

Do you know that Test Pilot Mr.Suneet Krishna has said "even in present condition FOC level Tejas MK-1 is itself EXCELS MIRAG-2000 AFTER UPGRADE".

Late Flight Captain Mr.Reaz Khokar linked with Tejas Program had said that "Tejas MK-1 supersedes Mirag-2000".

The Current Government is doing right thing i.e. pushing Tejas down the Throat of IAF and will do it in great numbers.

Buying "126 (fighters) would cost India about Rs. 1 lakh crore. Can we spend so much money on a high-end fighter," Mr Parrikar asked, adding, "you don't agree to a 1 lakh crore deal" without working out how and from where the money will come."

He said the Modi government would now review acquisitions worth Rs. 5,40,000 crore cleared by the previous government.

The BJP government, the minister said, will first acquire only equipment and weapon systems that are critical for the three forces. "We are in the process of weeding out the rest."

"Today we have only 40 LCAs, why can't we have 100 of these?" he said.

How many each of the Rafale and Tejas fighters will be deployed will depend on negotiations with the French government on any further purchase from Dassault, he said

The government, Mr Parrikar said, wants a fighter jet manufacturer to set up a facility in India which "may not necessarily be Dassault."

Parrikar interview to ndtv probably . Good news for tejas:-)

Latest whispers from different sources
The GRIPEN Lobby had informally requested for a 100% FDI route possibility to produce Gripen under Make in India. AT present they cannot offcially request as 100% FDI directly is not agreeable to the government

It seems the G Lobby also is emphasizing that Gripen E would meet all needs of India Light fighter category.

DM Parrikar it seems had still not met these lobbyists and is urgently reviewing HAL production capacity of LCA. That is why a target of FOC procedure beginning May 2015 is being declared and targeted completion by December 2015 is planned.

Personally i feel we should clearly state light fighter category is completely Tejas only so pls dont send your lobbyists and waste our times.

Anyone notice the INTAKES for MK2 from the model shown above, Looks like its been completely redesigned.

I think its a amateur model, not mk2.

Progress on LCA Mk.2 cockpit config
tejas2.jpg

The look and feel of the all-glass cockpit that the LCA Tejas Mk.2 will sport is fructifying with the Aeronautical Development Agency announcing that the main display will involve two 6x8 Smart MFDs and one 5x5 smart MFD in centre console "based on the latest and best design technologies currently available in the market".

The ADA is looking for a full solution to its SMFD needs for the LCA Mk.2 programme. The capability exists in country, though a competitive process will now ensue.

The ADA is looking for active matrix TFT color liquid crystal display SMFDs with separate LED backlight for day and night modes with redundancy for backlighting in both the modes, touch screen capability (will be the first Indian aircraft to sport touch screen panels), anti-reflection coating, full sun readability and night vision capability, compatibility as per NVIS Class B MIL-STD-3009B, EMI protectio.

The bezel shall have push buttons, rocker switches and rotary knobs, auto brightness control (ABC) of the display using illumination sensors placed on bezel, capability for windowed image overlay driven by the display processors, dual channel video to support redundant display processors, continuous health monitoring with periodic built-in-test reporting along with its normal operation, provision for operator Initiated Built-In-Test, In-situ programming capability. Conduction Cooled with no external cooling for the entire range of operating temperature.

Hence why I said "faith"...
