Lankan minister threatens Tamils of massacre

Sinhala Only Act - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Read that..
This act failed to recognise 20pc population who had tamil as mother tongue including tamil speaking moors..
Sinhala is the language of Ceylon's (now Sri Lanka) majority Sinhalese ethnic group, who then accounted for around 70% of the country's population.Tamil is the mother tongue of Ceylon's three largest minority ethnic groups (Indian Tamil, Sri Lankan Tamil and Moors), who together accounted for around 29% of the country's population.

These percentages are wrong! Sinhalese and Tamil percentages are getting lower but Moors percentage is getting higher, Muslim families have 7-8 children....

see it's "Official Language Act No. 33 of 1956" you missed that part to read?

India has no national language...
Official languages are used for usage for central govt officials... Hindi are majority so hindi is official lang.. And english are used for communication purposes in case, some official dont know hindi...
In TN and other states, their respective languages are used...

:D So be happy as a Tamil, in Sri Lanka we have given official status to "Tamil Language" not in just one part, in whole country!
at New Delhi or Mumbai government office u don't have chance to use your Tamil language ?

lol 2000 years for Tamil history in Sri Lanka? get a life man! Come and dig in every inch of Sri Lanka try to find Tamil history. History can't change to you or me.

There are no act called "Sinhala Only act" these are just words just like "genocide" "equal rights" used by some racists! Actually this is "National Language act" There wasn't any Tamil or Sinhala language as national language at that time. English was the national language, English speaking Tamils and English speaking Sinhalese protest against this act. But majority Sinhalese wanted their lost rights back! That's what happened! what's wrong with doing Sinhala as national language almost 90%+ can use it well. Now Sinhala and Tamil both are official language.

SL is not even bigger than TN.. u cant gel a country with just 3 major ethnic people... we have more than 100 ethnicities and deal have to be acceptable to everyone...
Does people in mumbai speak tamil? So according to ur logic people of india should read 28 regional languages?
maximun one cant study 3 languages at a maximum... So when we move to delhi or mumbai, there comes English.......

what is 'whole country feeling'..please explain. Only thing I an guess is you r talking about nationalism...so please tell me if you r not talking about nationalism and love abput your ciountry than what is that 'whole country feeling' which only srilankans can get.

The fanatics should keep in mind that Sri Lanka will face isolation if they attempt any such thing. Tamils are in some very influential posts around the world, including the chief of UN Human rights council Navi Pillay.

Pls explain this 'whole country feeling'... You mean to say that if a Tamil travels to the Sinhala dominated areas he can survive without knowing Sinhala.

"Whole country feeling" can enjoy some of countries only, I don't blame on any Indian about it, it's never ever happens in India so don't think about it too much. I'll give some examples, Thailand, Korea, Japan etc.

Tamils who live in north around 4.2% whole population, so what do you think about rest of Tamils, Are they live in Moon?

You still didn't answer the question..How will a Tamil Survive in a Sinhala dominated area or a Sinhala in a Tamil dominated area without learning Sinhala or Tamil respectively.

I have answered above, Tamils live in around the country also there are Moors who fluent in Sinhala and Tamil languages so they aren't alone anywhere in the country.

Also our sign boards mention in 3 languages, so any ethnic meet their mother tongue! Sinhalese, Tamil or English.

Better you had done that back in 50s instead of "Sinhala Only Act."

I'm fed up with explain this many time, there wasn't "Sinhala Only Act", it's national language act! At that time English was the official language in Sri Lanka. English speaking Sinhalese and also English speaking Tamils were against this act. I'm lazy to type, just see my previous comments in this thread I have mentioned it!

The law was passed without the consent of Tamil minority. Am I right?? Tamil was given official status much later when Sri Lanka realized their mistake.
