What's new

Kohistan district (khyber pakhtunkhwa)

What about Summar Nallah :D ??? last year when we had dinner there with Mash ki daal me and my friend went to buy some drinks when we took the drinks shop keepers asked us where u came from we said Lahore then he said this is gift from my side i will not take the money from you , you are our guests :D we forced him to take the money but he didnt every where we can find good and bad people our problem is we mostly focuses on bad ones :D

Ah, yar na kar. I've already been experiencing strong withdrawal symptoms for quite a while. Kia yad dila dia. Aur yar, whats the name of that small hotel in Pattan, the one with the small bridge right in front of it's gate and a waterfall running behind and right under that bridge. Has ugly pink walls in the dinning room and the hand washing area is separated from the dinning area with curtains. For the life of me, I can't remember it's name.

And yeah, the people aren't bad at all. They just aren't very happy letting outsiders in and by outsiders I mean the goras. Kids used to throw stones at them in Pattan. But they've gotten a lot better.

Try it in the winters! With a hot doodh patti from the hut right on the nala and a hearty breakfast of omelette and aloo ki bhujiya with parathas! Oh dear God! aks18 what have you done! I still have 3 more hours till iftar.

I've never really stayed at Sumar for long, just the usual tea, smoke and some snacks. But in the winters this place is amazing. You have bright green shrub sparkling and dotting all the wet, dark brown, rocky mountain sides (from the moisture in the air), then you have little patches of bright and clean white snow on the mountain sides and the atmosphere is crystal clear (very unlike the summers) with little patches of thick white mystical mist (not like the dirty all sweeping fog veil you get from Raikhot to Jaghlot). I tell you, northern Kohistan in the middle of winters...First time I saw it I failed to recognize it and I've never seen anything like it anywhere else. In this season, you won't want your journey through it to end, unlike in the other seasons.

ps: Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the last 3 pics that I posted are from Sumar Nala.

I have to say, really really beautiful. Amazing!! I wish I can visit one day. You should build hotels, vacation village and mountain/lake Scenic Areas to attract as many as tourists as you can..:pakistan:

[Going to be slightly off-topic--but then natural beauty and human passions are seldom separate?]

Having spent 22 years in America and Canada and with a 'successful' life and lots of friends there is a now yearning to go 'back to the roots'; to speak the mother tongue (Urdu); to eat the delicious food; to be where, maybe, I truly 'belong'. All that is not to take away from the beauty, accommodation, vigor of North America but the yearning is about seeking a 'change'.

And so I have, for past several years, been thinking of various places to move to. Considered Ecuador highlands. Considered Panama highlands. But I think Pakistani highlands would be better. I have looked at various valleys of Pakistan and threads like these are so tempting--and confusing at the same time: Where to go?! All of them are so gorgeous, most of them untouched by humanity too much; all of them have generous, hospitable people...

I am so leaning toward the Palas Valley in Kohistan. Maybe take up some role as a school teacher. Maybe start a small B&B. Maybe an eco-tourism company...

What Pakistan needs is peace. Then we expats can and will flood Pakistan with money and skills.

You should take a chance at Baltistan region. It is very peaceful and people are very simple and friendly.

@Meengla, I concur with what Areesh said. Check out Skardu and Karimabad. You'll have the basic necessities (some what) and the places are filled with gorgeous scenes and people. Don't stop at Kohistan keep going further. Although it completely defies sense to compare any of these places.

every Province have diversified land
