What's new

Kohistan district (khyber pakhtunkhwa)

. .
Nice thread Pak-one.

You know, Kohistan is usually just a pass through area to get to Gilgit-Baltistan. But go there early march or mid to late January.....spectacular! And it changes colors in the blink of an eye; now you have green shrub ridden mountain sides, now forests and now a desert. I've been lucky to have seen Kohistan in snow, Jan 2012. Actually there was snow everywhere that year, from Sazeen to Battagram.

Some of my own pics from over the years:

What did Pathans do to you, recently?

@salman108, that is such an IGNORANT REMARK you made.

You should be ashamed of yourself for stereotyping Pashtoon People, majority of whom are loyal and patriotic Pakistanis.

BTW, good job @Pak-one for these breathtaking photos of KPK Province.

Haha yeah and they look so beyond your reach, you feel as if there's a whole new mystical world alive up there and your not invited. It's actually kinda topsy-turvy there, everywhere else you have the trees near and/or at the bottom with the peaks left barren. I must have some pictures of these forests, let me see if I can find some.

I have fond memories of that area too. As a young boy I traveled as part of 'Adventure Foundation' troupe. We traveled from Abbotabad to Swat via Kohistan. Beautiful country of lofty mountains.

You mean the Adventure Foundation Pakistan, right? These guys started of with a lot of promise but now are just another inefficient and incompetent Pakistani organization. Went white water rafting with them.

Does anyone have any Pics of 300 years old "Seo Mosque" of Kohistan?
Or the highest peak (16500 Feet hight) of Kohistan "Gunshar"? or the latest Spat Valley?

Infact no one have.......Why????

Most of the above pics are either too old or taken only from the KKH roadt itself:laughcry:

@Hyperion @Pak-one

Salman Exagerated but he is merely talking about Pathans not Pashtuns you both very fond of making distinction between them in every other thread......so chill out!!

you shared the same old pics :) lol i told you guys Kohistan is one of the most un explored valley in pakistan it means no one have showed much interest in exploring this area cz of lack of hotels and security there ,,

the pics mostly are from KKh cz there is no other Road around the valley you have to trek hours or days to reach some meadows on top of mountains or even to reach palas valley u need a lot of time and due to lack of facilities and infrastructure tourist just passes by kohistan via kkh

I think the major reasons of this blackout is locals traditions which barred individuals to invites outsiders and earned money from it.

Nice pics. I used to think KPK is barren desert with rocks and mountains. Which part of PAK is primarily desert?

Search pictures of Swat, Naran, Kaghan, Mingora, Chitral, Kalam, Kalash, Malam Jabba and the Galiyat for starters. This isn't Afghanistan you know. And no province of Pakistan is primarily desert, maybe to some extent Sindh. But if we're talking smaller parts then the Thar and Cholistan areas are all sandy desert, there are other rocky and mountainous deserts in Balochistan and KPK, etc., etc.

Maaf kijiyae ga bhai, yeh mein ne guzartay guzartay kheenchi hain. Kahain tou utar dun? I've only spent nights there, at Pattan, Bhesham and Dassu and of course meal times at the Bismillah restaurant (trucker's canteen), exiting Dassu, for its Kabuli pullow. Didn't stay long enough, Skardu and Karimabad were always calling too loud.

To some extent, yes.

@aks18, but the security is only a real issue if you're at the northern end, which is uninhabited, that too mostly at night time.
