Kiss of the Nation.

thats the job of army in every country including UK... thats because they got capability(taxpayers fund such capability) for disaster management.
Thats their job, you dont worship doctors because they provide treatment to patients.. you dont worship engineers because they build bridges...

Its not about job its more than that. e.g those guys are paid much much better and have much better gear than in PA. This WOT may be their biggest war in after WW1/2 .... and they are fighting from behind the walls and now they are running away . Now if it is their job then they should be fighting not running away......

But in PA case they are fighting on all front and they are a forefront to save nation from all calamities. And we are talking about our army not your army. And all Engr,Doctors,Army are connected to each other.

when britain was poorer, they were also fighting with whatever they had... poorer country than pakistan do the same even now.. every country does the same.
My point was not to compare UK army with PA (my English must be terrible, if you got that impression), but to say that disaster management is done by armed forces even in developed countries, simply because the capacity is there and it makes sense to utilize it.
It will be stupid to raise battalions of separate disaster management forces because they will be unutilized for most part.

No offence meant but just want to ask Pakistani members here , do you guys actually look up and see the PA as a role model, and if so why?

You might want to read up on why Pakistani politicians are hated so much. Even if one or two Generals made mistakes but Pakistanis at large love our armed forces. Politicians have looted Pakistan and taken most of money in foreign countries.

Not exactly....it is rare to see UK army coming on to help aid its people...They have many institutions who DO their work and WHEN they fail only will the army come in...

In Pakistan we either dont have such institutions or they are not active - but still get paid hence the word corruption!

Mind you in UK at lease some politician or another would be seen at the scene within min to days...in Pakistan it takes weeks for the chicken to come out to acknowledge that something bad has happend and something needs to be done...then another few weeks for the chicken to actually develop a plan then another few weeks to actually put it in action...Oops people are dead already!

Thats their job, you dont worship doctors because they provide treatment to patients.. you dont worship engineers because they build bridges...

Look, We are not Indians who worship everything which moves...or that which amazes us...

We APPRECIATE our army...Since you dont know the situations here it is really pathetic you put in your low opinion!

We appreciate our army coz LIKE WE SAID (even you agreed) it is doing its job! While other institutions are not...

PA is the only institution that is working properly, the only institution that looks like it wants to do something fir the country

The important thing that is measured is how the rights and services are delivered to the common man and thereby advancing the standard of living of the common man and helping the nation to progress and prosper in all fields.

It cares about their people and in general people give a lot of respect.

It is the army is the ONLY institution doing its job over trying to get rich (no doubt there is corruption...no govt on the planet is above corruption) however civilian govt usually are doing their job less and making it more of getting rich!

They are great fighters and their discipline, dedication, devotion and sacrifice is saluted regardless of their influence outside their due role.

Whenever there is natural calamity like earthquake , flood then who is on front to come to save its people it is Pakistan Army

Who is fighting terrorits , it is PA

Who is delivering it is PA.

silly notion that they are doing something special.
Silly for you maybe coz in UK every institution is doing what it is paid to do...NOT

I want servicemen to dispel such myth that surrounds them.
Nobody actually cares what you want its not about you but about our people, how they feel about it and how our country acts to it...

I will feel awckward if somebody kisses my feet because I saved him using my medical knowledge as a doctor(if I was a doctor).. for him it might be magic and god... for me I know I just used the knowlege gained by studying and practicing.
Typical hindu mindedness...we dont bow to people...We acknowledge and celebrate them!

In my humble opinion, adoration of the army began during the time of partition. Being very young at that time my memory is vague, however I remember the ‘Panah guzeen’, as many immigrant were called by the largely uneducated population, telling my father how they owed their life to Baluch Regiment as the soldiers had saved them from the kirpan wielding Sikh mob.

This idea has been reinforced by the fact that the country’s economy has always done better under the military rule. Most people will remember that during the second term of Nawaz Sharif in mid 1990’s, there were ‘Ghost schools’ and the army was called to investigate because the civilian inspectors were not trust worthy. There was problem of power theft and the army was again asked to take over WAPDA and help root out the problem.

No matter how dislike Musharraf, ordinary Pakistanis that I come across agree that Pakistan’ economy & the governance was far better during his time. I remember that I could not find hotel room in Islamabad as the Marriot was fully booked. I had to use some influence to get a room even at the Pearl Continental, Lahore.

Whether one likes it or not, FACT remains that the majority of the politicians & the bureaucrats are liars and totally incompetent. Meritocracy is discouraged and nepotism & cronyism rules the day. Can you believe it, even the cheques issued to the hockey players recently as reward money ‘bounced’? It was only because of the media that these were finally honoured!

Pakistan Army is the only institution that is disciplined and expected to carry out the assigned tasks. General public simply doesn’t trust the civilian authority to do their job and/or deliver on their promise.

well i don't know much about history but currently the PA is the only institution that is working properly, the only institution that looks like it wants to do something fir the country, and this might be a bit un democratic, but mostly during military regimes the economy went up, and during civilians rule it was either going down or was stable at one place.

Agreed PA is by far the best institution in PK which is actually delivering results

There is no doubt that Gen Sharif is a God send for Pakistan. A very disciplined soldier and a true son of the soil. He is a fierce patriot and is fiercely fighting for Pakistan's interest.

One more name i would like to add and give commendation to is Lt Gen Rizwan Akthar. A very disciplined and competent soldier, a fierce patriot.

They can be trusted to do their duty time and time again.
The only civilian State institution like that in Pakistan is the Motorway Police.

I was in Islamabad in December. I was assigned a driver who was an ex-Army fellow. Very nice and a true gentleman. He told me some very disturbing things happening in CMHs. He told me that ex-COAS Gen. Musharraf had allowed the AMC Docs to admit civilian patients in the CMHs. According to him, the Docs would assign the beds to their civilian patients instead of admitting the low-rank and especially the ex-Army personnel. He also told me that getting medicines from the CMHs pharmacy was hell of a difficult and that those (ex-Army personnel) who could afford would rather go to private clinics. If this is true (and I have no reason to believe that I was misinformed), I am deeply concerned because these fellows have given Pakistan their youth, it is nation's duty to take care of them in their older age. I wonder if COAS is aware of this concern of ex-Army personnel.

Do you guys really believed that Armed Forces dictators have really delivered?

Sir my answer might be a bit different from what other members have to say. Majority of Pakistanis, no matter weather right or left wing, conservative or liberal , look up to the army as a role model, the following are the reasons.

1) Fighting terrorists, the civilian judiciary and govt has always given in to the extremists, sometimes in the name of dialogue and sometimes out of fear, today they are in this fight against terror cuz of pressure from Army.

2) Army is responsible for Construction of Infrastructure (Roads, electricity, schools, technical colleges, universities, cadet colleges) in areas like FATA, remote areas of Balochistan, where govt has failed to provide these basic facilities to people.

3) If you look at the previous trends, Pakistan has performed economically well in military regimes as compared to civilian regimes, Ayub era made Pak a model for developing countries declared by UN, even South Korean experts used to come to see the economic plan implemented by Ayub and wanted to adopt it, Musharraf era increased the GDP growth rate to 8%, when Nawaz left in 1999, Pak's reserves were 300 mill, under Mushi they increased to 13 billion.

4) Army is generally seen a professional and a proper institution where there is no corruption and the curse of “safarish” doesn’t exist, all the other governmental institutions are corrupt and people never wanted to be associated to politics, until recently when Imran Khan stepped in , before that politics was a corrupt man’s domain, that is why hands down 99% Pakistanis will choose military dictators over politicians.

.
I thank all Pakistani members here for their responses. now i wish to ask them one other question ,

Do you think Pakistan is better off under the Military or do you still prefer democracy?
I ask this because from your replies it seems Pakistan was better off under the military , after all if the people are happy whose business is it otherwise!!!!

Exactly. They don't have to 'prove' their affection. PA is not doing them a favor.

If we had a good leader, with an acceptable IQ level, we don't need a military head of state. We need a leader, not a ruler.
