below is a 2 year old report.

below is the photo when tamilnadu opened aliyar dam in their area resulting in destruction of moolathara dam, palakkad. this is a small sample.

Fury unleashed: Water gushing out of the Moolathara dam in Chittur taluk in Palakkad after a breach on Sunday morning; and the floodwaters render the Nilampathy bridge (causeway) at Chittur invisible.

The Hindu : Kerala / Palakkad News : Expert committee to go into breach at dam

Our Ex-Minister Premachandran knows the mentality way before.
This is from the same source:
PALAKKAD: Water Resources Minister N.K. Premachandran has said that the State government will appoint an expert committee to go into the causes of the breach of the right bank protection structures of the Moolathara dam and suggest measures to prevent such accidents.

After visiting the dam here on Sunday, the Minister told The Hindu that the government would pay compensation to the people whose houses and crops were damaged in the flood due to the breach.

He said the incident had once again justified the anxiety of Kerala about the safety of old and huge dams still in use in the State.

If a comparatively new and small dam, such as the one at Moolathara, with a water level of just 12 feet, could not withstand the impact of heavy inflows, how could centuries-old dams be still in operation, he asked.

The Minister said that though the Tamil Nadu authorities had informed their Kerala counterparts that the Aliyar dam would be opened and the Kerala side opened the shutters of the Moolathara dam, the breach could not prevented.

He said the dam was strengthened and the regulator-cum-bridge was constructed as part of the inter-State Parambikulam Aliyar Project (PAP) agreement between Kerala and Tamil Nadu in the 1970s. Despite that, the structure could not withstand the pressure from huge quantities of water.

More distortions. Your original phrasing was "Students of IIT roorkee are not authorised to pass judgement on whether the dam is safe or not". Are you saying that your choice of the word "student" had nothing to do with trying to dent the credibility of the study? .......

Absolutely yes and that has been consistent stand from the start.

For a better wording I should have used A study by a "group of individuals" from IIT Roorkee does not stand the test before the Professionals from CWC whose sole job is this.

Happy ?

contract bwn India and Pakistan is Water sharing treaty or agreement ...while here there is no such water sharing agreement bwn Kerala and Tamil nadu on Mullaperiyar river so both are completely different issues

What the treaty says inside the is completely irrelevant. What matters is that there is a treaty and it was followed.

Cheta, screw ur differentiation and all.Mullaperiyar is staying,u want to see?

Indian state formation has done great injustice to Tamil Nadu. I am an educated to take this rational judgement.

The states were formed just based on the language. Not scientifically.

that is the main cause of the issue.

Now let us come to the issue of the MP dam.

1. Tamil nadu is law abiding . - when we agreed to lower the dam height for many decade we have not raised it even though supreme court of india allowed to do it so.

2. Kerala's use of water is to create electricity in idukki...refer to mr oman's information on reducing water level at iduky dam , you can understand that what i mean.

3. 780 MW that is the installed capacity of iduki. and storage capacity is 75 TMC, where us the mullai periyar dam is 15 tmc.

4. this is what kerala AG has given to court today
Mullaperiyar safe: Kerala AG - India - DNA

The iduki dam was mostly holding half of its capacity and it can take entire water of mullaiperiyar.

usually it holds 50 to 55 tmc and it can take additonal 10 tmc.

What does Kerala lose because of MP dam.

1. Idukis dam present installed capacity is around 750 MW . But the water is not sufficient to fully utilize... Proof? can the Govt publicize. its based on AGs report to high court today.

2. around 300 MW or roughly 1000 cr is lost to the govt. thats a huge money

3. By having the dam on Kerala side the water can be diverted as and when needed. for tamilnadu they can go for one more tribunal court and the case will go as long as your kids grand daughter get married as usual a begging bowl .

what tamilnadu gets.

1. Water , the hieght of western ghats prevent rain clouds to enter south and west tamilnadu and the result is it is in rain shadow region . the main source of water is MP

2. We can not pump the water from delta or coastal area ( where we have heavy rains) districts to such distance and heights

3. if the dam is decommissioned, what would be the gaurentee that Kerala govt will fulfill the commitment they say... in fact they have not implemented the supreme court ruling, similarly Karnataka has not implemented supreme court ruling...

4. what about millions of farmers.

Immediate measure.

1. Call international exprets and ***** the dam and remaining life.
2. if the dam is weak then
dont demolish it first
first sign the agreement between two states
a state should not sell water to other state, rather it demand for electricty
Let Center build a new dam and the control should be with an independent operator.
3. If the dam is found to be strong
tell the people it is strong.
if they still dont belive show them the leaky mettur dam they will agree :) that MP is lot better.

If every one disagrees with tamilnadu , then

1. tamilnadu by the contract has every right to demolish and build the dam in the same site
2, tamilndau can lay 100s of additional pipes to bring down water and store it in a new lower reservoir

3. worst case scenario . build HARP like climate change program to bring water to the state . even if the rest of india is affected .

well if every one take advantage of their geography and calling the national asset theirs we should.

Supreme Court says 'Safety of people is paramount, can't be compromised' ...rejected Kerala's petition to lower water level to 120 feet ...

The Supreme court Tuesday dismissed Kerala's plea to lower the water level of the Mullaperiyar Dam to 120 feet.

The apex court said that an empowered committee is looking into the issue. It said that the situation was not grave, admitting that safety of the people was paramount and could not be compromised.

The court also said that both Kerala and Tamil Nadu governments were adding fuel to the fire.

now Tamil **** want Idukki entire Idukki District.... their Mp's are demanding a Referendum

No CISF deployment without Kerala's request:

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is said to have expressed his inability to deploy Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel to protect the Mullaperiyar dam unless the State concerned (Kerala) makes a request.

Dr. Singh on Tuesday expressed his concern to a delegation of Congress MPs from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, led by Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office V. Narayanasamy, on the continuing violence in the border areas of the State and highlighted the need for leaders and people from both States to remain calm and maintain the peace till an amicable solution was found to the Mullaperiyar imbroglio.

Home Minister P. Chidambaram too expressed similar views on the demand for CISF security when the Congress parliamentarians from the State called on him on Monday evening.

The Centre has taken the stand that since the issue involves law and order and the subject is under the purview of the State government, the Union government could do nothing unless a written request is made by the State concerned.

Though the Mullaperiyar dam is under the maintenance and control of Tamil Nadu as per a lease agreement, geographically it is located in Idukki district of Kerala.

The Hindu : News / National : No CISF deployment without Kerala's request: Manmohan

this is for Bhairava ,there wont be CISF deployment with out Kerala's permission (as i said)

Read Con-gress MPs. Even Vaiko doesn't do that.

If Kerala has to develop we better throw away these national parties and vote for regional ones.
