Keel Laying ceremony of Fast Attack Craft (Missile) No. 4 being built for Pakistan Navy, was held at Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works (KS&EW) today. Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah Chief of the Naval Staff was the Chief Guest at the occasion.

Fast Attack Craft (Missile) is a state of the art, multi mission vessel with steel hull and aluminum super structure and equipped with indigenously developed weapons and sensors.

While speaking on the occasion, the Naval Chief highly appreciated the achievement of this important milestone ahead of schedule. He said that the indigenous construction of this Craft is a giant leap towards self reliance as the construction of this war ship will not only open new avenues of design and ship-building but also accelerate our progress towards achieving the goal of indigenization. This project once completed, will demonstrate Maritime Technologies Complex and Karachi Shipyard’s design and construction capability in entirety. He also said that All 3 Ship building berths at KSEW are going to be occupied today nearly after 3 decades.

While highlighting geo-strategic and socio-economic significance of CPEC the Naval Chief said that the trade activities are poised to increase manifold with the developments taking place on the China Pakistan Economic Corridor project which has the potential to transform Pakistan into a regional economic hub. This would place additional premium on the responsibilities of Pakistan Navy to ensure safe and secure maritime environment for uninterrupted maritime activities to take place. FAC (M)-4 will add to Pakistan Navy’s operational capability upon its induction. He also assured PN’s all possible support to KS&EW to make this strategic setup in transforming as a vibrant, productive and strategic element of the maritime sector. He further said that we are pursuing establishment of new shipyards with Government to further boost our ship-building industry.
Earlier Rear Admiral Syed Hasan Nasir Shah MD KS&EW in his welcome address said that this project being the first indigenous design is a result of strenuous hard work by Karachi Shipyard and Maritime Technologies Complex, which gave enough confidence to undertake such a challenging project. He also highlighted that the ship will serve our country for decades as national symbol of our indigenous efforts. He gave a brief outlook of ongoing projects which included PN Fleet Tanker, FAC(M) No. 3, MPVs for PMSA, Bollard Pull Tugs, Multi Purpose Barge and Bridge Erection Boats to Pak Army. He also highlighted KS&EW’s future plans and said that we have started preparation for mega project of construction of submarines for PN.

MD KS&EW thanked Ministry of Defence Production, especially Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Zakaullah for his visionary approach and solid support behind all projects.

The ceremony was attended by high ranking officials from GoP, Pakistan Navy, corporate sector and KS&EW.

Excellent News. Congratulations!
Which missiles do you think it would be carrying?

No. 4 does not have any ramp for boat in the back. it seems to carry some sort of anti air missile in the front? any idea why to eliminate the rear ramp?
you are right, No. 3 as well does not have it. Anti-Air missile in the front is unlikely, Probably the main gun will be a dual purpose gun. Rear ramp might be omitted to place bigger size launchers for relatively larger missiles.

Excellent News. Congratulations!

round launchers might be for Babur-2.

They will either use a navalized Babur II or, more likely will be for Zarb/C-602 300km AShM.

Personally, I would have liked to see the main guns (which were dual 25mm cannons on the Azmat) replaced by an AK630 or other CIWS like on Type 022 and the current AK-630 replaced by an 8 Cell FL-3000N launcher, but it seems they replaced the dual 25mm gun with a 30mm chain gun, along the lines of the STAMP 30mm stabilized Chain gun from Turkey.

This is not Azmat Class. The Azmat Class carries 8 Anti Ship Missiles this one carries 6

What are the indiginous sensor and weapons despite Ashm in it ? Speacially sensor ?

Agree.
On the Azmat, the Chinese mod AK630 is clearly primarily for anti-missile tasks (likely with secondary anti-surface role), whereas the twin-23 or twin-25 (either one) is primarily anti-aircraft with secondary anti-surface role. Evidence to support this is also the weapons control radar there. In its current position, the AK630 and associated radar/elop director have the best coverage for anti-missile (higher up, bigger firing arc). To the extent that the forward arc isn't fully covered, this means the ship will turn away from the thread in case of an incoming missile, which reduces the target area for the missile and allows for available response time to be maximized. Probably also best protection for CIC position (which I presume is in the forward part of the superstructure, where the bridge is). The forward gun is manually aimed, not via remote control.

(Forward) Air defences could easily be augmented by either integrating MANPADS into the twin gunmount, much in the same what this has been done on land with Zu-23-2 mounts. This could range from a simple modification to a more complex one, with more FC solutions. It may also be possible to integrate some MANPADS with the AK630 mount (Russian mounts have been shown mounting 2x2 Vikhr-k ATGWs). Alternatively, it can be done by installing someting small and compact like a GHIBKA 3M-47 (3M47 Gibka) Turret Mount atop the bridge. Ukraine offer a similar piece of kit called Arbalet-K.
