What's new

Keel laying ceremony of 2nd ship of Type 054 A/P held at Hudong Zhonghua Shipyard

To clear up confusion

first you get steel cutting
The steel sheet is used to make a module
When the 1st module is laid they call it these days still keel laying

this is keel laying although there is no keel in modern ship building when the first module is lowered they call it keel laying

$$$ is also a factor
Dollars are not a factor when our politicians, bureaucrats and military waste money on stupid things (like metro, or huge palatial houses and land cruisers and other stuff). but when the time comes for strengthening our defence, people suddenly remember that we do not have enough money.

J-Class is family of multipurpose frigates specifically modified to meet Pakistan Navy demands.
i really doubt the armament will match that of a T54A. I change my mind, should have gone for 10 instead of 4. and should have upgraded the OHP by now. they are wasting a good ship. 8 missiles from a decommissioned T21 were instead put on it. what a waste.

also, whats up with buying 4 of each, 5 is a good number for a squadron strength.

Few things,
1: J-Class armaments and sensor suite are currently unknown, while those known are not meant for public disclosure.
2: Unlike Type54, J-class is more modular and is slated to grasp the naval capabilities which cannot be provided by Chinese or are better provided by non-Chinese markets. Therefore, in certain domains, J-Class will exceed Type54 thus earning a separate important place in Pakistan Navy modernization program.
3: OHP has passed its age and as per regulations we cannot just put up anything we desire on that ship. Just like Tariq class, its in line waiting to be replaced. There is no point to upgrade it any further, not to mention that we need American approval for modifying it further.
4: The number ordered depends upon the operational requirements and finances.

good job!:china::pakistan::china::pakistan:

We are not expanding order as per now though China was willing to sell 8 Type 54 instead of 4. Apparently we will wait for Type57, and will focus on J-Class production till then for increasing numbers.
Type 57 is another name for 054B?

J-Class is a very good warship. But if you say it has some capabilities that type 054A does not have. This is an exaggerated statement. After all, J-Class is just a light frigate. as for the modular design. This is not 'technology'. Even China Coast Guard Shipyard can do it.

and type 054A can adapt to any sea area. Including the Pacific Ocean, the Indian Ocean, the Persian Gulf, the Mediterranean Sea, and the Black Sea.....

Can J-Class be fitted with HHQ 9?

Well if 8 were available we should have taken 8 would have given some backbone to the Navy's posture

this corona pandemic is going to affect severly our defense shipping dreams.the same.way 2005 earthquake.affected our procruments.

There is a big gap between the 560 ton Azmat class and the 2400 ton Yarmook class. Something is needed to fill this gap, particularly given that there is no budget for big ships for the next 5 years thanks to COVID19.

I never said that Type 54 is inferior than J-class in some way. Infact, the presense of two vastly different family of ships indicates PN two prong policy for force modernization. Tuype54 & F22P will house the state of art equipment which can be sourced from Chinese defense industry while J-class is going to allow PN to integrate systems available in Western market. Therefore, we will be looking on two differently sourced fleet in PN, One based upon China, other based upon West (minus USA).
And I mentioned J-class for being modular design as unlike Type54, it includes major structural upgrades too. Moreover KSEW will be manufacturing them at home with ToT while Type 54 is an off the shelf purchase tailored to meet PN specific demands. PN will be working to further explore J-class design and even craft out heavier frigates from it in future if every thing goes according to plan. Hence, J-class offers its own advantages while Type 54 along side F22P will maintain status of their own.

What type of vessel you want to integrate inorder to fill the "big gap" that exists between a corvette and a missile boat? And how that is even feasible? A bigger missile boat with more payload and displacement?

So far it has impacted Air Force borne programs. Navy programs are doing fine as per now.

Probably Yes.

Congrats. this is fourth and final Type 54 A ship being constructed now.
