SRINAGAR: The opening session of Indian-administered Kashmir's new state assembly was halted Monday as opposition members demanded a debate on the rape and murder of two Kashmiri women.

The crime has become a focus for large pro-independence protests in the Muslim-majority region, where many residents have long campaigned against rule from New Delhi.

Police initially said the two women drowned but later acknowledged they had been raped and murdered. Four officers have been arrested for destroying evidence.

Lawmakers from the opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP) demonstrated in the centre of the assembly, but the speaker rejected their calls for a debate on the issue.

They talk both way if she is in kashmir she talk diffrent and come to delhi talk diffrent. They don't care about own people all politicial are same. After Father , son and grandson. It's familly bussiness.

Ms Mufti, where were you when Hizb men killed 3-yr-old last wk?

SRINAGAR: Jammu & Kashmir assembly witnessed a stormy start on Monday when PDP members, led by Mehbooba Mufti, stormed the well of the House
demanding arrest of Shopian case accused. They tried to snatch the Speaker’s microphone.

Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone directed marshals to remove the unruly PDP members from the assembly.
The assault on chair was condemned by the treasury benches. “You cannot win elections or hearts of the people by disturbing proceedings, riding on desks and snatching mike and papers from the Speaker,” chief minister Omar Abdullah later said.

“The issues can be raised at an appropriate time during the session which is more than one month long.” He said the scene was created for publicity purpose. The chief minister asked legislators to behave in a disciplined and decent manner.

Mr Abdullah had last Friday launched a scathing attack on PDP and the separatists for their silence on killings of a three-year-old boy and his father by Hizbul Mujahideen (armed wing of Jamaat-e-Islamia) militants. These leaders have also maintained stoic silence over the brutal killings of two women — 17-year-old Nigeen Awan and 45-year-old Rashma Jan — by the Hizb militants. But these deaths — barbaric in their own way — have gone almost unnoticed.

Mr Abdullah in a rally in South Kashmir had said “had they been real champions of human rights, they would have at least spoken against the killers of a three-year-old child (Mohammad Arif) and his father (Mohammad Aslam)”.

Terming the Monday’s incident “unfortunate” and “shameful”, parliamentary affairs minister Ali M Sagar said: “PDP has no real issue to raise, so they are resorting to adventurism. PDP’s irresponsible behaviour was without any provocation.”

What BS is this? The Assembly session was halted because Omar has been accused to be involved in the J&K sex scandal case.

Well in a way, atleast all this ruckus looks familiar and makes me happy that the people of J&K can express themselves in the halls of power.

Welcome to Democracy :enjoy:
