Kargil and PAF's role - by a PAF officer.

Deal!! I love a good ale. There are some micro breweries here in the DFW area but none that make a decent ale - So I am stuck with Harp..

AM - In the better interest of worldwide peace and harmony, especially in the South Asian sub-continent, I have decided to tweak the joke a bit!:P

The REAL reason the Indians did not retaliate immediately was because their missiles failed on launch too!!

*sigh* now look what you made me do - I now have both Indians and Pakistanis pi$ off at me:D

Can't I just buy everyone a beer??

Complicated people....

Hehe, you didnt make me pissed mate! I thought it was a very good joke, and i had read it a couple of years back as well. Though Agno is right on it as well.

Cheers:cheers:

See this is what is going to happen if Americans start mediating between India and Pakistan on the Kashmir issue. In the end Americans would be confused as to what are they doing.

Guys this was a pretty interesting thread that got derailed for no reason. Since I am not going to bother with deleting a whole bunch of prev. posts at this time, I would suggest that either folks get back on track or not post.

No more derailment please.

Well said ( the highlighted part).

Brings out larger issues of inter service rivalry & joint man ship.

Their last touchdown was awesome, but I loved the Cardinals touchdown, the way he saw an opening and ran for it! Now that was awesome!

No, it really was a brilliant idea, but ultimately very badly planned and executed!

I think it was executed well enough - the issue was with underestimating the diplomatic pressure India would bring about to bear, especially when Pakistan implicitly handed them the diplomatic victory by not claiming the operation as its own, and therefore implying that there was something wrong with us claiming Kargil.

The flaw was with arguing that it was primarily an irregular non-state force that took over the heights. What shoudl have been done, IMO if the goal was to retain control of the heights permanently, was to have made a big song and dance on the world stage for a few months over the Siachen intrusion by India, and demand that she withdraw - raise it in the UN, call diplomats over etc. etc.

Point out the attacks on Pakistani supply lines etc. fabricate some, make Indian aggression look outrageous, and then conduct the operation and make no bones about the fact that Pakistani forces had taken over the area as a response to Indian aggression in Siachen and their repeated attacks on Pakistani territory from Kargil sector.

If the thinking was that India would not escalate becasue of the Nuclear deterrent, there might have been even less chance of that had it been a direct Pakistani operation from the get go.

Of course I am assuming that permanent retention of all the heights in Kargil was the goal. Doesn't Pakistan still control some of them?

It is a very interesting read. The Army's version has been read by a fewq of you, and one of the questions that i always had, which was never satisfactorily answered except by being told that I could not read and comprehend English, was the fact that by keeping PAF out of the loop , in case of escalation it would be and consequently the army would also be caught unprepared. I am glad that the question has been raised by none other than the great AC kaisar Tufail. Unlike the other article i am in total agreement with the logic behindthis article.
I think much more than before there is a need to integrate all 3 wings of the armed forces into commands, for integrated action and planning section should be one so that these problems are routed out completely and all aspects of the war are considered prior tpo embarking on one.
On the same issue claims have been made by people in the know on our sister forum that PA still holds some of the posts conquered during the Kargil advance. I would like to have a senior review of the claim please.

Sure... Hardly realistic. A top PAF pilots talking about infiltration? It is not a shock that Indian post these kind of rubbish.Hold the presses... The Indian superiority is based on fake articles and nationalism...

I do not want to blaim it on all Indian posters but they hardly have capcity to post something valuable. At Keymags they are all trying to hide behind western names. It reminds me of the usual nationalistic approach that IAF is not for PAF but against PLAAF... Well, why putting almost all the bases then near the Pakistani border?

For a naion that is huge in IT they unfortunately have hardly the capacity to post something valuable. And if they need help from Israel for anything one can imagine thenb what should we add?
