President took the notice.

don't ever make the mistake of calling in the army!!! once you do that then you see the minute army crack down starts the MQM will start crying that it is an "operation"!!!

next step ALTAF becomes MUJIB-UR-REHMAN and demands a new country! hence don't give altaf an excuse! mujib & altaf are the same!

De-Political zone is the only solution for Karachi. And this can only be done through Army Control

I have been discussing with various people, that how can we 'deweaponise' the city? what would be the road map? you can regularize the 'licensed weapons' but what about the illegal weapon?

Do you expect that you will announce to surrender the weapons and everyone voluntarily give his weapon? It has been announced before, but just one revolver was surrendered by a widow, and revolver belonged to her deceased husband.

Now, the licensed ones,
There are too much robberies in almost every part of city. Who will give them protection? 2ndly, there are countless mosques / imam bargahs, who secure their areas themselves. Will they surrender their weapons? NO.

So please do not become the part of political statements of deweaponization.

The only solution... Make announcement that 'whoever' seen with carrying weapon will be shot dead. Deploy sniper shooters in troubled areas, by making 'morchas'. No arrests, just shoot at sight orders.

actually you are 100% correct but the problem is if an ANP,PPP & MQM terrorist is killed with a gun the party will claim he was masum innocent supporter without a gun then what will we do about the propaganda?

but idea is perfect however,how will we ensure unbiasness on the part of police or infact how will police fight against an AK47 carrying terrorist? to many ifs and buts

Sending the army into the city would mean the govt has a resolve to bringing peace in Karachi - which they don't. if they did there wouldn't be any need to call in the army as the police is capable of handling the situation on their own. But since its a political rift between the PPP and MQM, police has been ordered not to interfere or not to interfere that much that there would be a significant difference in the situation.

And yes as the article pointed out above, sending in the army would have consiquences of its own. The moment a video emerges of a PA soldier slapping a youth - who maybe carrying a weapon- its game over. No ones gonna care if the kid had a gun or which violent gang he belonged to, the headline will only be, " Pakistan army's brutality in Karachi."

bahi, deweaponising the city is not a problem. I guarantee you it can be done in a few months if there is a political will to do so.

I'll give you an example of New York. This city was violent and gang infested all through out the last century. Without going too far in the past, from the 60's, 70's, 80's all the way to the mid-90's the city was a drug and prostituion zone. Guns and drugs littered the street. The iconic Times Square and Central Park - the famous hang out spots - people were scared to go there after sun down.

What changed after 1995 that NYC - though still has some gangs and weapons- changed drastically? This mayor came, Rudy Gulliani and he turned it all around. He started with the police. Operation clean up. Anti-crime and Narcotics units within the police force were reshaped and launched an extensive operation through out the city and massive arrests were made. Next stop was the District Attorney. Made sure people who were arrested for gun charges faced extensive sentences.

Five years later, the entire city changed. Today, it's a former shadow of it's past self. What didn't happen in four decades happened in less than five years. I guarantee you Karachi can be cleaned up even faster. But only if the politicians are willing to go the extra mile. If all three parties sat down tomorrow, PPP&MQM&ANP and genuinely said, no more killings, no more guns, no more drugs, the city will be cleaned in a matter of months. Police's hands will no longer be tied and they'll do their job irrespective of the conciquences to them if they locked up a certain party's gang member, what would happen to them.

The problem of Karachi isn't law enforcement related but rather politics related.

Army needs direction from respective department, if CJ can give, he should... I mean there is no other choice...just like Swat operation, this too shall be supported by the whole Nation, just dig out the outlaws and shot them... it is said they have intelligence reports on every single criminal who is involved in target killing... just take them down...

i guess you don't know much about karachi...in 90s operation was done to rid karachi of extortionists,rapists,sharpshooters & torturers!

today all those killed are made heroes like bugtti!! in pakistan a dead man is worth more than a living one!
