Kamorta class corvettes for VPN ?

no doubt, we very much value JP helps and assistances, especially during the hardship periods after the wars. JP government provides ODA and grants, while their companies had been long the #1 investor in VN, but recently surpassed by S. Korea. without JP money, we would have suffered a bit longer (the Chinese would have more one reason to laugh).

economics wise, I believe to the Koreans than Japanese as korean companies are not only hungry and thirsty for success but believe to a new emerging economic small tiger VN. the recent series of investments of Samsung, LG and many others are a proof. from the $17.3b new registered capital, the koreans contributed $6.8b, making them the #1 investor so far in the 11 months this year.

Bro, every company is money hungry, even sometimes PSU. No one is holy grail here.

Can you give us the name of this forum and thread?

@Carlosa @Water Car Engineer, this is what we wanted to hear. It sounds very much like the Israeli MF-Star.
Yeah mate,it's the Indian Defence Forum and the thread was about the probability of Vietnam buying Indian Frigates in the near future although the thread was started more than a year ago but i think you can find it there:-).

I read the Sigma for VPN is incredibly expensive. any ship carries weapons onboard worth more than $60m. some news say VN is negotiating with the French for locally producing the exocet missiles. we can definitely drive down the cost if local products.

Better to get rid of the exocet and just use KH-35. 5 million to 1.8 million.

Making them in vn will not be really cheaper, all the components need to come from France plus the cost of setting up the production line and all those for just an small number of missiles? Makes no sense.

yes, there are plenty of chances, for instance tourism. indian tourists can compensate some of the decline of chinese tourists to vietnam. Nice: direct air routes are agreed and first flights are conducted.

One good thing about Chinese tourists is that they pay for tour guides, eat and pay at proper resturants, buy souvenirs, etc. Basically, they give good money to the tourism industry.

It's the European backpackers (Carlosa's cousins) that VN needs to watch out for. They don't spend much money, don't pay for a proper tour, cheat on local people, etc.

I was going to say the same thing, it makes no sense.

I think @Viet might be having his fantasy session again. lol

the koreans are a special case. they want to show the world, especially their former masters chinese and japanese what they are capable of. their diligence and ambition drive them to the top. they work until they fall dead. if you haven´t noticed, also, korean aggression can surpass of the chinese and japanese people.

KH-35 aka the Harpoonski is technically very similar to the Harpoon blk-2 AShM on every aspect except for the range. While the Harpoon blk-2 has a range of around 285 kms the range of Kh-35 is only around 130-140 kms.But the best part is that you can buy 3 Kh-35 at the price of a Harpoon.

don´t misunderstand me: as like most of other vietnamese, I like china and chinese people. I don´t lie. it is just their pathetic and dirty politics that sucks. well, chinese tourists are always welcome in vietnam (except they come with passports having map printing 9-dash lines). no, european backpackers are just a minority. they are welcome, too. not sure, if there are any of Carlosa's cousins among them :D

KH-35E is 260 km range.

why only rely on russian missiles? you never know for sure if in a event of conflict, the russians refuse to deliver parts.

You have a point, but it will be expensive to have the exocet just for that, but if vn gets brahmos, then that would be a nice other choice.

VN factory, reportedly, can produce the upgraded version of Kh-35: X-35 with range of 300km. but as I said previously, this kind of missile is subsonic. what we need is supersonic, making the enemy ship defence harder to intercept.
