On earlier occasions too, Haasan was vocal about restarting the 'tradition' and has said jallikattu must not be confused with bull-fighting in Spain.

Defending the game of jallikattu currently banned in Tamil Nadu, superstar Kamal Haasan today said he is a big fan and all those who hate the bull sport should give up on biryani too.

"If you want a ban on jallikattu, let's also ban biryani," Haasan told Managing Editor Rahul Kanwal at the India Today South Conclave in Chennai. "I'm a big fan of jallikattu," he said.

"I'm probably one of few actors who've played jallikattu. Am a proud Tamilian, this is our culture," he said.

NOT THE FIRST TIME

On earlier occasions too, Haasan was vocal about restarting the 'tradition' and has said jallikattu must not be confused with bull-fighting in Spain.

The 62-year-old actor had said that in Spain, people hurt the animal and it would die, but in Tamil Nadu bulls are treated like "god, as part of the family".

Haasan said the sport of jallikattu is all about bull-taming and not about harming the animal involved. "It is about taming the bull and not creating physical harm by breaking its horns or other parts," he had said.

In a blow to the Tamil Nadu government in November last year, the Supreme Court had dismissed the state's plea seeking recall of its 2014 verdict banning the bull fights, holding that the practice amounted to cruelty to the animals.

. . .
People in TN are getting frustrated due to the inaction of the central govt to bring an ordinance for Jallikattu. They will ensure they wont even retain the 2 seats they won last time.

.
Despite police crack down and lathi charge at madurai protests today, there is no sign of any backdown... Whatever may be the verdict of the SC, it's evident people aren't going to respect that and the bulls will roar this time for sure. After massive protests across TN, the CM met the press and said jallikattu will happen for sure ths time.

Already jallikattu conducted yesterday in nagoor and 30 people got arrested. After the verdict of the SC tomorrow, a middle finger is on the way from every tamilan..

. .
Jallikattu is fine. Seen it, the animals are cared much better than the secular abattoirs that slice their necks with perfect precision. The Government can ban the latter. But guess that requires guts. :D

. .
totally agree with Kamal sahab . . . . .:tup::tup::tup:

ban the animal sacrifice rituals as well or else lift the ban on jalikattu

Banning animal sacrifice is not even a remote possibility, we too sacrifice animals during puja, it's a part of my culture, I do agree with kamal hassan BTW

.
If it's about banning practices of animal cruelty then we should ban all animal slaughter outside govt authorised slaughterhouses.

One cannot be selective with jallikattu.

. .
All decisions relating to internal affairs of Tamilnadu should be up to TN gov and any legal challenge should be decided by Madras High Court staffed with ONLY JUDGES FROM TAMIL NADU.

.
It should rightfully be banned. Leave the poor animals alone! It's against Indian sanskar to torture animals.

If it's about banning practices of animal cruelty then we should ban all animal slaughter outside govt authorised slaughterhouses.

One cannot be selective with jallikattu.
Ignorant north Indian foolish politicians like Modi, Menaka, Irani, Singh do not know that there is no cruelty at All
