As Joe Biden is set to take oath as the new president of the United States in less than two weeks, Pakistan has called a high-level meeting to review its ties with the US.

According to the sources, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Dr Asad Majeed Khan has returned to Islamabad for the high-level moot.

Diplomatic sources told the publication that Pakistan will act cautiously in dealing with President-elect Joe Biden’s administration as they have a good idea about Pakistan and South Asian affairs.

However, Pakistan is hoping that the new president will adopt a pragmatic approach towards Pakistan-India ties.

Interestingly, the last Democratic administration had de-hyphenated its relationship with Pakistan from India but later declared Pakistan as its non-NATO ally; a position that it rarely attaches with the countries that stood by the United States and opted to develop a distance from it subsequently.

Afghanistan will continue to remain an interest for the United States vis-a-vis its relations with Pakistan. The peace process in Afghanistan that was initiated by the outgoing US administration through hectic efforts is still far from a complete success.

Moreover, the Taliban leadership that entered the peace process skilfully slowed down the process and didn’t allow Americans to make gains at their behest. The Biden administration will likely continue to follow the Afghan peace process, but more prudently, the sources said.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Dr Asad Majeed has briefed the concerned authorities in the twin cities about the possible stance that can be expected from the new administration towards Afghanistan.

Reports say that Pakistan’s nuclear programme has been a concern for the US policymakers’ but they argued that presidents’ from the Democratic party have traditionally attached less significance to the issue.

Pakistan’s envoy to the United States Dr Majeed will brief the officials about the policies that may be pursued by the incoming administration in Washington. Interestingly, outgoing US President Donald Trump had developed a personal rapport with Prime Minister Imran Khan and both used to refer to each other in talks.

While, President-elect Biden has dealt with multiple Pakistani leaders, including former prime ministers Nawaz Sharif, Yousaf Raza Gillani, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and former president Asif Ali Zardari.

It is expected that Prime Minister Imran Khan will want to create an opportunity at the earliest to have a meeting with Biden.

Furthermore, the defence experts are attaching significance to the visit of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa to Bahrain where he is held significant meetings.

The US Centcom headquarters is situated close to Bahrain and a US defence delegation is also visiting Pakistan these days.

A great deal has changed since then, and the US is also relying more now on ties it had in past to maintain its standing on the international stage.
Bro, Allah da wasta. You are a smart individual. The whole obama cabinet is back! These mofo's are going to start more wars. the only difference here is obama will play bidens role where biden has replaced obama as president.

Some are some aren’t, the world is not set in stone, that’s what all prudent people understand. The US has massive work to do internally and the days of adventures in far off lands are gone, you can never sell that to the people. Remember that’s how Trump came in.

Absolutely, people forget under prior Admin, there were far more drone strikes and civilian casaulties.

Biden wil start where Obama finished off for sure. The best that Pakistan can do, is keep them at arms length. There is no need for Imran to rushing off to see Biden, etc.. No good will come of it, only harm.

Biden has too many Indian bitches & bastards in his administration now for there to ever be any improvement on the relationship...

challo.... thora or F sola tiyara or T129 ka engine mil jai ga ....
I think Pakistanis are being way too optimistic, Joe might be more sympathetic to Pakistan, but US policy overall prioritises its relations with China and India, as well as with China vis-à-vis India.

And democratic governments have historically been less helpful to us, it’s republican administrations where we get the most attention. With Trump you could at least curry favour through the Saudis and Jared, or directly with Trump and IK. I don’t see our relations getting better. In fact, if joe decides to slow down exit from Afghanistan, we could conceivably go from being important to the exist process back to hearing Obama-era ‘do more’ rhetoric.

It may however be indirectly good for Pakistan, Joe will likely re enter the JCPOA, and that may have some indirect benefits for us.
we are always optimistic ... nothing new.... state policy never changes ..Democrats or Republicans ..

at least Trump didn't start any new wars he did try to bring to an end the current wars and mess from bush obama years. though Venezuela and othet Latin countries did see some form of meddling but at least he didn't start new conflicts

that is the real danger to the world at large the wreckless wars mayhem and chaos. the bustard company is back. no wonder arms makers and tech giants are so happy.
