“The Kashmiri people, leadership and the state of Pakistan should prepare themselves for it. Otherwise freedom will remain a distant dream,” Syed Salahuddin said. — Dawn File Photo

MUZAFFARABAD: United Jihad Council chairman and Hizbul Mujahideen ‘supreme commander’ Syed Salahuddin said on Saturday that those calling for settlement of the Kashmir issue through peaceful means were in fact deceiving the innocent Kashmiris, adding that an armed struggle was the only way to resolve the dispute.

Addressing a press conference, he said that experience of the past 65 years should convince any one that only a strong and target-oriented armed struggle across held Kashmir could win freedom from Indian occupation.

“The Kashmiri people, leadership and the state of Pakistan should prepare themselves for it. Otherwise freedom will remain a distant dream,” he said.

The press conference was held at the end of a procession staged by the supporters of Hizbul Mujahideen to mark the ‘right to self-determination day’.

The UJC leader said he supported political movement but was opposed to what he called a fragmented and fractured political struggle. He claimed that about 150 rounds of talks with India had failed to produce anything.

He said it was the armed struggle that had forced foreign troops to leave Vietnam, Algeria, Libya, Afghanistan and Iraq and once again it was compelling the US and allies to withdraw from Afghanistan.

He said the trans-Kashmir travel, trade of potatoes and onion, internal autonomy or division of Kashmir could not be a substitute for freedom.

According to him, the ongoing Pakistan-India talks and confidence-building measures on trade and travel were a bane for Kashmiris because these were virtually sidelining the core issue. “This goes exactly in line with India’s strategy and can affect
the affiliation of Kashmiris to Pakistan.”

Mr Salahuddin appealed to pro-freedom leadership of Kashmir to forge unity in their ranks for the sake of their oppressed people. When asked who was responsible for friction in the ranks of Hurriyat leadership, he put the blame on “fluctuating and inconsistent policies” of Pakistan. “There have been differences in approach of pro-freedom leaders on some issues but a consistent policy from here can end them.”

The Hizb leader endorsed Mirwaiz Umar Farooq’s reported statement about the Taliban’s spill over into held Kashmir.

He criticised Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf for `backstabbing’ the Kashmiri mujahideen “at a time when India was about to quit Kashmir”.

But what is the view on the Chinese part of the border? Now, it's more relevant since a fierce gun battle is going on between the Pakistani and indian forces along the LOC, as we speak.

Jihad is not a solution....Only mutual dialogues can actually gain anything...
Jihad has been used by pakistan from the early 60's...
Look what it has done to Pakistan...Instead of achieving its goal its biting back at Pakistan....

Ohh come on please, this guy cannot solve his own problems but aims to solve kashmir problem..

what can solve Kashmir problem is dialogue, trade, peace and stability. The only reason we are poor is due to our own shortcomings!

the fact is India will maintain the status quo and when and if right opportunity comes either India or Pakistan (previous more likely) will takeover the rest of the land.

i say hang ppl who spread hate both in India and Pakistan.

force can not achive anything both have tried it and failed.

Ind vs Pak war is no more a practical option, thanks to both the countries mad nuke scientist's.

the only place we can actually fight is cricket and we just defeated u :victory:

This Salahuddin clown is out of a job! Can the Pakistanis please give him one? His rants are getting pretty tiring. His so called 'Jihad' has been on for almost three decades! The result? The Kashmiris care a damn for him and his lame duck ' Jihaadi warriors'!!

This a$$hoe is living in style in Pakistan and spewing baloney at regular intervals to stay relevant. Why the heck isn't he with his Yahoos in Kashmir? I thought leaders are supposed to lead from the front. But here we have a joker who sits far away from the scene of action watching his warriors getting slaughtered!

I guess that's in the blood of all Jihaadi 'leaders'! Bloody cowards!

Mard ka bacha hai tho Kashmir aao. Phir dekho thera haal kya banathe hai! :cheesy:

A man who will be out of job if he doesn't promote this so for obvious reason has no choice but to promote this .But the key board warriors from both side of the border makes me laugh as neither one of these warriors plus this so called leader will be seen near the border if bullets start to fly.

I like it, these punks should go for it, we would be glad to end it once and for all.

So what you are saying is Regular Indian military men refused to Fight and they had to resort to Hiring civilians to fill in the gaps.

People who wanna join Military don't wait for camps they usually apply at the recruitment centers which are open year around so if one wanted to they would join like other people do by applying for it not look for a sign or a camp.
