JF-17B Updates, News & Discussion

So what purpose will the in-house modification serve that the off-shelf version does not provide?

One can assume that the primary motivation would be to add provision for integration with both Chinese & Western munitions??

Pakistan does not yet have the finances, technical know-how, or institutions to accomplish what you want. This would require a multi-decades approach along with a smooth GDP & institutional growth. The current path of slow evolution is what best that can be hoped for. We are seeing the results of this approach in JF-17 development. Anything appreciably more than this is out of reach for now.

I see no sound reason for any objections from Western armament suppliers if Chinese are not part of the loop. This opens up more European options for missiles to arm JF-17.
Paklands would probably like to have a mix of weaponry put on the JFT, ie both Chinese and other. This would mean incorporation of both missiles on the JFT. Unless we own the source codes for the radars we cannot do so. This may have been the reason for doing in house assembly with the provision of source codes on the Radar.Since Pakistan has itself incorporated the SD10 A on the JFT, I am assuming it has the source codes for the said missiles. The capability to launch munition from various sources is a huge plus as a selling point.

Once get the source codes, you would know how to jam the missile effectively.

Refreshing thread. :-)

That any possible interesting party would do. Or what you think he was here for? that too standing next to under production JF-17B.
Saudis could maybe actually want JF-17B as they only have medium and heavy weight jets (Typhoon and F-15) which are kind of too extra considering Yemen is a very low intensity conflict. If the back seat is for Weapon Systems Officer(WSO) this would help a lot in strike role but I'm not sure if JF-17B is trainer jet.

It is made primarily to serve that purpose for International customers. Training and strike as well as Growler, it shall serve all purposes, PAF making the most out of it. That's what makes it a true multi-role platform.

Note how the leading edge flap is bifurcated/ truncated on the dual seat as opposed to the single seat version. Click the thumbnail below.

Reason for the bifurcated leading edge flap?

Probably a redesigned pylon with greater ground clearance hence the pylon may be a bit closer to the wing leading edge to carry bulkier or even dual rack Sd10s or may even be to cater for additional hard point but the later guess seems less likely than the former.

Or it may be the other way around. We have seen F7s carry fuel tanks on the second pylon but not JF17s. So may be this might as well be another reason to add the option of carrying fuel tanks on the previously dry second pylon while the inner pylon holds bulkier strike options (Raad) or even Dual rack for SD-10s. @Signalian your opinion?
