JF-17 Thunder Multirole Fighter [Thread 7]

But I don't see the point of fitting a 4,000 hour engine on airframes with less than 4,000 hours of life in them.

didn't they increase the air frame life from earlier 3000 flying hours to some thing around 4000 as commonly believe ....??

It's 4,000 hours, but a mid-life engine switch would mean putting fresh engines in fighters with less than 4,000 hours in total life. But I can see PAC zeroing the airframes, so a SLEP is possible.

Also, the same can be expected while converting old to newer blocks, Block-III as the last goal for older blocks.

India plans to induct 300+ 4th gen planes in next 10 years to counter this paf will need at least another 150 jets with total strength of at least 20 sq
What people plan and what happens are 2 different things. Negotiations for the Rafale have proven that procurement can be a long winded affair in Indian armed forces setup. They may have facilities setup but replacement in my humble opinion will take longer.

It is an interesting topic but to what extent are bl. 1s and 2s convertable to block 3s? I think we may have to wait and see. It depends on what changes are brought about. We need to study the development cycles of the Mirages and the F16s to guage how different the later iterations can be. At some stage it maybe prudent to say we will stop and the newer frames will have differences which the older ones may not be upgradable to. However I will eagerly await the block3. If I remember correctly from the earlier statements of the PAF highups , bl 1 was supposed to be upgradable to block 2 while block 3 would be a different beast.

Also you may remember and if I am wrong please correct me that during AESA displayed at Zhuhai Arishow discussion, it was highlighted that there are chances that the same upgrade will be done to previous birds which includes Block-I converted to block-II so by the calculation we will be having newly Block-III and older Block-II only. If I remember correctly @Horus was the account to break it so you are right too and SLEP type can be done as well and currently we have to wait. IMO, Block-II conversion to Block-III may consist of AESA, extended life upgrade to facilitate new engine (few similarities) but not totally on par with Block-III which is going to be a different beast.

OK. Series 3 is not the same as MK.
IIRC at the 2015 Dubai Air Show PAC officials told IHS Jane's that the RD-33MK was under consideration. But I don't see the point of fitting a 4,000 hour engine on airframes with less than 4,000 hours of life in them. New engines will almost certainly becoming with new JF-17 frames. It would really be a nice way to round out the Block-III, but it doesn't seem like an engine switch (in the PAF) would come that early.

Some plans are more probable tejas(though i dont expect more than100) and mki are rolling. Sooner or later gripen will too. Rafale was simply too expensive. I simply dont understand mind set of buying it anyway

I dont tvink we need to convert block 1&2 to 3. Recent f-16, f-35 combine exercises have proved that a few capable aircatfts can augment rest if the fleet via information sharing . net centeric war fare

dont know my self
That was the funniest answer I've ever heard on PDF:lol: and most honest..

The thought was good in case of the J-31 with JF-17 all Blks combined.. Apparently all Blk 1s will be upgraded to Blk 2, but not sure if Blk 2s will be upgraded to Blk 3, the most probable upgrade for Blk 2 will be adding the AESA radar and a few goodies from the Blk 3 design..

well if we talk about modern warfare, its about data sharing. the fact is that in any combat situation all thunders will be instantaneously sharing all data, a few capable thunders can help others.

rather than doing an expensive retrofit of existing thunders, i would spend the money to get more thunders than the current presumed order of of 150-200

regardless the first 100 thunders will remain relevant for next 10-20 years as they are still very capable aircrafts and have other roles including too. like air support, and antiship roles

Hi,

The data sharing will also face heavy jamming----which means---most of the time---the aircraft maybe on their own---.

The " minimum threshold " level has to meet and compete all by itself mano a mano.

The standard issue for the mongol archer was the recurved composite bow---that shot the similar arrow and needed the similar strength for any archer to pull the string.

The Gladius of roman soldiers had similar design features---ranging from 60-85 CM and weighing .7 to 1 kg---and that depended on the physique of the soldier---.
