From the cockpit...

Surprisingly good visibility , Initially I thought the instrument panel would block the view but seems like a very nice view of the front and majority of sky in-front

Visibility on side is also not considered in this view as pilots have perfect visibility on sides to get good view as well

Pilots have Panoramic view of the surrounding except for minor 4-5 degree block

Pilots enjoy an unobstructed view sides , top , back , true 355 degree view

Thunder will certainly cross a major mile stone once the Helmet based targeting cue system in integrated

Interesting learning that Pakistan is getting F-16s mostly funded by American money. :drag:

And Pakistan has nearly 100 JF-17s built. Now that's huge number. :pakistan::china::pakistan::china:

In the above video it is revealed that most part of this is paid by America's own money while Pakistan is only paying a part out of pocket. We might actually end up paying something similar which we spend for JF-17s. So not a bad deal if this is the case.

Second, American sale of equipment despite all of India's propaganda means Americans have flushed Indian allegations of terrorism down the toilet drain.

there is one thing u r missing from the interview.. that is if PAF has to spend its money, they'll go for the chinese next generation get. So that means that PAF is not going for another 4.5 gen jet, instead waiting for J-31.
after 9:00...

In terms of JF-17 powerplant, Air Commodore Mahmood told AIN that, “We’re satisfied with the [Russian Klimov] RD-93, but some customers may want another engine. We have done preliminary studies on the [Eurojet] EJ200 and [Snecma] M88. They are doable.”

JF-17 Thunder Gets First Export Customer | Defense News: Aviation International News

The EJ200 with a wet thrust of 90kN might seem plausible but the M88 with its 74kN of wet thrust? I seriously doubt it. The thrust is just not enough. Keep in mind that the RD-93 reportedly has a dry thrust of 79kN.

this damn big round stopping visibility
This vision obstruction along with If starboard side IFR is approved will considerably block Pilot vision. If I take a guess, every pilot will feel the pinch or become irritated during dog fights or engagements

How doable is the EJ200 engine? does anyone have any idea that modifications required to fit one are possible?
And if the engine available for sale to paf? because it seems if it was why wouldn't they go for it already?

EJ200s dimensions are smaller than RD93 and have higher output/fuel efficiency. The tube would need minor modification but overall would give better twr, more space for fuel and electronics and more power.

EJ2000 is not for PAF use, its onlly an option available for an export version to Saudia or Qater etc, who does not want Russian engine. Where as M88 will only be used on double seater JF-17s for PAF OR EXPORT as well, Compromising on thrust for a shorter size engine to fit in dual seater trainer aircraft. PAF has plans to induct just 6 dual seaters in 150 aircrafts remaining will form 7 suadrons of 144 aircrafts.

The benefits are undeniable but the problem is one of sanctions. If engines get sanctioned half your fleet gets grounded. The cost would be another factor which may deter PAF. The RD 93MA is round the corner and if it works well would be a much better bet as future looks like Pak Russia collaboration is likely to increase rather than decrease.

what is the Current confirmed specs of the JF-17 with Block II modifications ?

can someone talk me through the Upgraded avionics in details ?

can someone talk me through the Upgraded avionics in details ?

specs of the JF-17 Block II

  • Upgraded Radar - The "KLJ-7V2" was explicitly mentioned by Air Commodore Khalid Mahmoud to the publication 'Defence Industry Bulletin' during the Paris Air Show.

  • Upgraded Avionics - Again, explicitly mentioned by AC Mahmoud

  • IFR - AC Mahmoud, Jane's, etc, common knowledge at this point

  • Upgraded EW/ECM - Again, mentioned by AC Mahmoud, but Jane's (during the Dubai Air Show) said the JF-17 now includes a Spanish ECM. That could mean ALR-400 or even ALQ-500, not clear.

  • The extra 3000lb payload was referenced by Horus above.

  • AEW&C integration - implicitly mentioned by AC Mahmoud, in reference to a "national" data-link solution to link JF-17 to "on and off-board sensors."

"Fierce Dragon" complete aerial refueling functional verification test

2016-02-22 17:40:46

After two months of system improvements, "Fierce Dragon" aircraft completed before increasing air refueling functional verification test, opened the prelude to 2016 foreign trade research and production. By 2015, the "Fierce Dragon" aircraft have carried out a number of improvements and other environmental control system, increasing air refueling capabilities is the "Fierce Dragon" aircraft and a systematic improvement. CAC test station scientific planning, organizing crack fully engaged, and achieved gratifying results. Increasing air refueling capabilities, the better to enhance the "Fierce Dragon" aircraft air combat radius endurance and expand to meet customer requirements. "Fierce Dragon" aircraft for airborne refueling function improved after completion, to fly in 2016 foreign trade research and production as the foundation to create the conditions to further explore the international market. ? Can't say if they hook up with a refueler in Air or it was just to test aircraft flying with probe under different conditions.

They are tight lipped publicly. Perhaps information is available to prospective customers on official channels. Few improvements mentioned but no specifics, sadly.

Why is the Refueling pod not on demand ?
Just use it when mission requires it ?
