@Bratva,

Here is the interview posted by Usman Shabbir of PAKDEF in the JF-17 thread.

Regards

Hi,

Thank you for the post and link.

It clearly states that the JF 17 is already has provision of hard points for other engines---if need be----. It is on page 2---. @syed ali haider

That is an excellent design feature to have incorporated from gitgo.

After reading this interview, it becomes quite apparent that JF-17 Block-III will have AESA, IRST, HMD, additional chin hardpoints for pods and a more powerful engine if and when available.

This combined with possible future slaving of PL-10 HOBS WVRAAM and more advanced BVRAAMs (PL-15?) will certainly increase the combat capabilities of the platform significantly.

The only question is when will all this come out to be a reality? Hope we don't have to wait till 2025 to see the current requirements and objectives for the JF-17 to get achieved.

All this is possible, but PAF will have to find the appropriate power plant. This is the key and this can hold back the evolution of this jet.

Pakistan & China’s JF-17 Fighter Program

Oct 12, 2015 00:19 UTC by Defense Industry Daily staff

Dubai 2013

October 12/15: Sri Lankan Air Force officials are due to arrive in Islamabad in November to discuss a possible acquisition of JF-17 fighters, according to Pakistani press reports . Sri Lanka played down reports in June that the country was the first export customer for the JF-17, stating that a decision has yet to be made on a possible procurement of the fighter.

The FC-1/ JF-17 Thunder is a joint Chinese-Pakistani project that aimed to reduce Pakistan’s dependence on western firms for advanced fighters, by fielding a low-cost multi-role lightweight fighter that can host modern electronics and precision-guided weapons. It isn’t a top-tier competitor, but it represents a clear step up from Pakistan’s Chinese MiG-19/21 derivatives and French Mirage III/V fighters. This positioning addresses a budget-conscious, “good enough” performance market segment that the West once dominated, but has nearly abandoned in recent decades.

Pakistan has fielded JF-17s in squadron strength, with more on order and a Block II R&D program nearing completion. India’s competing Tejas fighter is overcoming project delays by looking to foreign component sources, but Pakistan and China remain out front with their offering, even though they began their project much later than India did. Pakistan and China have even set up a joint JF-17 marketing agency to promote export sales, which hasn’t paid off as quickly as they had hoped, but it would be unwise to count them out just yet…

Hi,

This is what came out from the top when the Chinese offered 18 J10B's to Pakistan---Pakistan reserved the right to get them in an emergency----but decided to keep their focus on the BLK3----. Aesa and BLK3 are their priority---it is Paf's pet project and it is a matter of life and death for them for it to succeed. It is a matter of total pride and commitment.

So---basically nothing much else can be done---until and unless the defense minister or the army chief says---these are the other aircraft that you are getting and in these numbers.

As a major European weapons contract is now dead---so options are again open for weapons systems---. The air commodore in his interview may have wanted to say more---but did not----.

Hi,

This is a very good configuration and not too expensive---.

What they need to do is to move the wheels outwards towards the wings---like they did with the Grippen. You can have conformal tanks above the wings and body and also increase the storage capacity beneath the wing and body----add two extra hard point and with air refueling---you get a fair amount of loiter time.
I can't say see the difference please explain

Hi,

Compare these two pictures---and see how the Grippen NG's wheels are pushed farther out---here is a quote

"
Design notice (3)
To accomodate a higher airflow for the F-414G engine the forward intakes has been expanded by about an inch. These forward intakes is removable on all JAS 39 models for modifications. The Laser Designator Pod station was removed for the modifications and will return over time and might be moved forward at the same time. Installing the new engine into the NG Demonstrator was successful on first attempt with only minor adjustments. Two new ventral stations has been fitted to the central fuselage and a rearranged landing gear has created space for a new internal fuel tank. The Demonstrator (a rebuilt JAS39B/D) is used to show possible upgrades to existing Gripens or solutions for completely new models ".

Now I understand I think we would see this in BLOCK III I hope we do

Hi,

Take a look at the internal fuel capacities on both aircraft---as the wheels moved outwards and folded in farther away from the fuselage---that area became available for fuel tank + hard points.

Grippen did not increase the wing area---but Paf can do something like that----it can put taller landing gears to have more clearance under the belly----and have more hard points----plus a bigger engine----but that could be in blk4 or 5----

This particular aircraft has been upgraded with Block-II updates as per per ACM Khalid Mehmood Marketing manager of JF program
