JF-17 Block-3 -- Updates, News & Discussion

What about buddy-buddy refueling?

Mid air refueling is a viable option for PAF jets only over an ocean/uncontested area.

You cannot expect to refuel over indian airspace with R77/SAM misses being lobbed at you. Most of PAF airbases are too close to Indian border to make mid air refueling within Pakistani airspace worthwhile.

Wow, Global Times is PLA backed so this info will be very accurate. If it is true it seems JF-17 has many J-20 sub systems. That combined with PL-10 and PL-15 combo means it stands a good chance against Rafale and is no comprehensivley better equipped then Tejas

The information may be accurate but Global Times is far from PLA backed. It is mostly speculative.

Constrained by number of re-fuelers & operational costs. It would be far better to have an improved fuel capacity. Airborne refueling would certainly be needed in many scenarios, especially over sea, but I imagine that to be specific to well-planned missions. What about CAPs, interceptions? So improving loiter time without having to resort to air-air refueling is important.
Did you consider that there may be a reason for increasing the fuel capacity? Surely its not a difficult thing ti strap on confomal fuel tanks.
We have enough tankers and CAPS can be rotated with some refueling and others performing

Oh dear oh dear

250 liters in vertical tail
That is 450 pounds or a meager 10 min extra loiter time at station, still every extra minute counts.
(estimate based on work done in this post: https://defence.pk/pdf/threads/jf-17s-ferry-and-combat-ranges.462726/post-8944801)

But the B version tail is also different so we cant be sure blk3 will have this tank..

Btw, would you have details on the capacity of the other internal tanks, wing, fuselage.. was doing some comparisons.

Bhai sb, pray please tell how you will utilize a tanker for an interception mission that involves afterburner take-off and 7 min dash to keep threat from achieving launch parameters. Internal fuel capacity is very important if such a scenario.

CAPs and Strikes can be supported by tankers but then you are limited by cost and numbers.

Already provided

Wings 550 lbs each so total 1100
Centerline front tank 1100 plus
Middle 2200 liters
Aft tank remaining

Captured from hmd on jf-17 on dcs

Correction from
Manual on Jf17 from
Dcs

Initially single seater had 5130 pounds of fuel internal plos another 3000 liters in tanks with 1x800 and 2x1100 liters tanks max

Pac afm chair is on record that fuel capacity went up how much ? God know

What is already provided?

On blk 3?

Are you mixing litres and pounds? Centerline front is lts or lbs?
Any other source than DCS, how credible is it?

Thanks!

Well it’s close to real

People keep ranting about increasing the fuel capacity. There is limited space in the jet, how can you increase the internal fuel capacity without increasing the size of the fuselage?
