JF-17 Block-3 -- Updates, News & Discussion

We need to replace 100+ planes in next 5 years, How many Block3 are we building in next 3 years?

They'll probably continue flying the JF-17 well past the 20-year mark. We can keep the F-7Ps and Mirages up, so I don't think PAC will have trouble with the JF-17.

I guess the Chinese are offering the PAF a net-new capability through the J-10CE. It could be a VLRAAM (e.g., PL-15), or something else, but I'd wager that is the reason why the PAF would be interested.

However, if the PAF acquires the J-10CE, it wouldn't be to plug a short-term need. Pakistan can't afford to think along those lines.

The J-10CE would fit into the PAF's long-term needs, e.g., complement the NGFA. The PAF could use the J-10CE and NGFA together for offensive operations, while the JF-17 is the main defensive asset.

If Pakistan does go for J-10CE, it would make sense to have total 72 (36 + 36 locally build).

A reduced RCS JF-17 (from technologies being developed for Project AZM) and adding all the EW equipment that can be added is probably what the PAF will do. The Swedish model.

EW Sub-systems and munitions maybe what they will work on to keep the JF-17 competitive, like the SAAB lightweight air launch decoy. An intelligent swarm of these could help overwhelm enemy air defenses and even 4.5 Gen fighter sensors until the JF-17 is close enough to launch its weapons.

Adding layers of defense, similar to what is being done for the Eurofighter

Also, it’s possible with the large electrical capabilities of the J-10; perhaps it will carry more power dedicated EW pods on the wing tips and under the wings; akin to the J-16.

and perhaps PL-20 to take on enemy AWACS, tankers, and unsuspecting Su-30MKI far away and forming up.

ALCM can be used for this role!

Pakistani production capacity seems to be 25 / year

so

Year 2021 = 25
Year 2022 = 25 ( as 50 were ordered)
Year 2023 = block 4 - 25

the production capacity is based on 8+14 jf-17 b + NAF 3 Jf-17 block II = 25 aircraft delivered this year with covid

so our capacity may well be 30 aircraft a year or two squadrons a year

Were did you get 25 per year?

I thought it was between 12 - 16.

Some people are saying that it's 25 per year.

No such thing. The following table does not include prototypes, 3 produced for NAF and also only includes 5 for MAF.

Never understood the 12/yr production reason
PAF should up the number production

Simply for for 300 jf17 in long run with the last 50 retiring the first 50

Go at 25/year and then drop to minimum rate of 8/yr when 250 is acheived.

This can push production till 2030 around which u can start on 5th gen

Rate of 12 yr is lower then before

If block 3 development plan was anything to go by block 4 will be sometimes in 2026. It will depend on what changes/upgrades are brought into it but that would be the leasg expected timeline. The interesting thing is will PAC/PAF ztop at 50 block3s or build more. Current projected rate of block 3 production is 12/year.

The JF-17 Block III is probably more advanced in the JF-17 family. But honestly, this comparison with Rafale is quite the jokes. Rafale is another class of its own, it is called an omnirole fighter for a reason.
You have to give specific comparisons at specs level but even that will not be a true combat comparison. In the BVR age success will be if one can hit an available RCS with longest range.
