JF-17 Block-3 -- Updates, News & Discussion

Excellent proposal. PL-12/PL-15 local production SAM and AA variants will be bound to enter in large numbers so makes sense, wont be surprised if something of this sort is in progress behind the scenes. This will also make up for the fact that AA missiles have limited flight hours before needing overhauls or ending life.

Also read on a Chinese forum last year that current production version of SD-10 is SD-10B and the upgrades could be ported to existing stock. So it is possible PAF might have received the updates too. However havn't found any source or mention of SD-10Bs again so it needs confirming.
What is the difference between SD 10A, AND SD 10B?

Lol..
In operation swift retort india couldn't differentiate between JF-17 and F-16 .
How can they differentiate between aircraft radars. They can't

Even though India received a bloody nose but that is not a good idea to determine IAF true capabilities. Dont forget PAF went out with their full might force while IAF was caught off guard. They have everything better then us YES the Su-30 MKI is still the biggest threat after Rafael but their pilots sucks.

Hi mate,

True that considering your enemy weak is a bad idea and Indian learned it the hard way.

However the SU-30 MKI has its fair bit of weaknesses.
Being a big aircraft it needs longer time to "Turnaround" . Needs larger airports and longer runways. Has higher requirements for maintenance and by Indian Air Force's own admission the availability is less than 60%, meaning 40% of the fleet is unusable at any given time.
On top of that they still use open frequency non-scrambled radios and entire fleet is PESA radar equipped. Both prone to jamming and disruption of service.

In fact the first ever AESA radar equipped Fighter jet in South Asia will be the JF-17 Block III next year.

Its next logical step with block 3 induction till azm materializes Chinese air-cooled aesa seems to be tailor made for block 1 and 2

U don't have to convert whole 120 aircraft But even half is enough
Or you can simply build more aircraft if it costs too much..thats what US did..sometime uogrades cost half or same price which kinda makes it point less

Pakistan would need a huge fleet. Its just better to make block 3 standard and build more of them. You dont need every aircraft to be AESA

The PAF should call it a day and ask for ToT for the SD-10/PL-12, including the dual-motor rocket technology. It's not as fancy as the PL-15E, but with China's help, we can develop the SD-10/PL-12-series into a longer-ranged air-to-air missile, and with time, perhaps a medium-range SAM (quad-packable, VLS?).
Or join hands with south africa if chinese says no.
They want someone to fund/ develop their tech

Yea, the South African option's been there, but the PAF isn't interested (at least not openly). If the Chinese say 'no,' then I expect the PAF would work with Turkey.

When it comes to china..
Local liscene production may be ..
sale definitely ..
But a independent product /tot ..i doubt it

BABUR, RAAD, BABUR SLBM, ABABEEL ... they all came as surprise. So, we never know since when PAF started to work and what is the progress so far. :) Paavesta Reh Shajar Se Umeed e Bahar Rakh!

Who knows PAF/PA might already be working on Super and Hyper sonic :)

The key with China might be to pay off part of the R&D of the SD-10/PL-12-series. So, if we're planning to keep that missile as well as develop and build new variants over 20-30 years, paying for the tech might be worth it.

China gets the benefit of offsetting some R&D costs, and we get the technology without spending the time it would take to make it again with another country. But it could be a solid $500 m to $1 b investment to 100% manufacture the SD-10/PL-12 technology in Pakistan, so we'd need AAMs and SAMs to make the most out of it.
