Japan is like tiny Israel. China and Russia drawf it in every sense, I can see why they want to have some defensive capability not dependent on the US (who recently has become more of a Chinese ally).

"Threatened countries" = Japan, Vietnam, Philippines, India, South Korea. Four of them have territorial disputes with China, and the Philippines claims have no legal standing. Its "sabre rattling" when China makes any moves, but if any of those countries send any military forces to seize the disputed areas its perfectlly okay.

Well, ally is not our national policy, neither is India's. Only small ASEAN countries would huddle together to engage in international affairs. Actually, inside ASEAN, each country has its own plan, that's why no country support Philippines's illegal claim. If the Philippines wants to face a two front war with China and the Moros then it continue with its stupid provocations (such as claiming they discovered the Spratly islands terra nullis when the Republic of China already garrisoned the). Japan is invited to support the Philippines if they want to get smashed like they did during World War 2 in Mindanao by the Moros.
