Japan plans to replace 100 F-15Js with 100 F-35As

Shinshin isn't the final product, Shinshin is just the model, the F-3 concept is totally different.

Then you need to fly it first.

Without any flight, your military technology will never be proven to be superior on the paper.

Absolutely right ! And we never claimed to be superior to anyone. We just want to develop technology that benefits Japanese interests and security. We don't like being ranked or compared to nation a, b, c, d etc...

Japan is in for a treat

12 missiles in an internal weapons bay is beyond crazy.

The JMSDF will without a doubt be able protect their skies and vast chain of islands with the combination of the Izumo class, the F35B and CUDA.

We want those 100 F-15j

Is Vietnam going to pay for that or are you asking Japan to give you those for free?

Russia is still ahead of China militarily, no argument about that.
Japan also has the most advanced navy in Asia, though China has the largest.

Agreed. But the gap is closing fast. Take a look at the state of the Chinese military even 15 years ago. People were talking about any attempts to reclaim Taiwan as the "million man swim" and the Chinese military was "the world's largest military museum." China was definitely the upstart. The Chinese navy was far behind Japan in numbers and capability and far behind India as well back then.

And take a look at the Chinese military now. People speak as if Japan has been the underdog but it has actually been China who was the underdog. Years of rightwing Japanese governments eager to whitewash history has given considerable impetus to China's military expansion, culminating in the launch of 3 warships (a total of 32,000 tons) in a single day by a single shipyard a few days ago. And the J-20 entering LRIP likely within two years.

Japan is definitely #2 but the spot is theirs to lose with China closing the gap fast in both numbers and technology. (Same with Russia). After all, to paraphrase James Carville, "It's the economy, stupid."

Even Japan is willing to donate these aircrafts for free, Vietnam should even not take it for the sake of their pilots.

These aircrafts are now over 30 years, and its composite materials have pretty much reached its lifespan.

To allow their pilots to fly these aircrafts is simply putting their life on the risk.

The only advantage for Russia right now is the nuclear subs and the quantity of the nukes.

While China takes all the rest.

I actually hope Vietnam takes those old F-15s for free. Vietnam's economy is in no shape to provide the logistical support for a bunch of 35 year old aircraft, let alone 200 of them but it would be hilarious to see them try.

As for Russia, they're ahead of China in engines and many other things and I personally would not dismiss them. Economically, however, Russia is pretty much washed up and they will struggle in years to come to match Chinese investments in R&D, not to mention China's military budget - set to reach 200 billion USD this year, depending on who's doing the counting.

About the engine technology, it is more correct to say that Russia has more mature engine technology.

However, when it comes to the sophistication, China is pretty much even on par with the US.

We are the only one after the US who are now running the F119 class engine such as the WS-15, while Russia hasn't started this project yet.

And don't forget that the scramjet engine for WU-14 which is the true future jet engine for the space aircraft.

China is well ahead of the US.

We keep things in low-profile, but it doesn't mean that we don't have it.

I haven't heard much regarding the progress of the WS-15 so I can't comment there. With regards to being ahead of the US, we'll have to agree to disagree. The US is decades ahead of China in many fields and IMO, we shouldn't be overconfident in that regard.

Not the overconfidence, but it is the reality.

All US technologies were made by mortals, if they can, so are we.

As for the HGV, which is the true diamond of the future, and how comes that we are ahead if they are truly many decades more advanced than us?

If China doesn't have a decent backup of military technology, do you think the US would allow us to outgrow them economically?

Japan was a prime example. Without a strong indigenous military technology, you can never challenge them economically.

Japan was naive back in the 1980s, they believed the modern world is purely based on the economic dominance.

That's also one of the reasons they are now hungrily pursuing for the amend of the constitution.

.

And the real fact : China still has to import outdated engines from Russia, like RD-93, Al-31 ... J-31 using RD-93 engines too. And if J-11 powered with AL-31 then it lasts, or its engines would be sent back to factory.
Chinese members here stated several times for several years that new engines mounted, but we did see that. The new batch of J10B in mass production also without domestic engines.

and your statement based on another real fact, Russia doesn't sell advanced engines to China.

When US designs a new aircraft, the engine is not their problem. F-35 even need a single engine only. Japan get the F-35 fleet is a huge advantage against China.

We import the Russian engines to fulfill our quantity, just like the US keeps importing the rocket engines from Russia.

Billion-dollar deal: Russia to sell space rocket engines to US company — RT News

The fact that make a real engine isn't like make toys. And Pak, denied to buy China aircrafts with domestic engines.

Whether you like it or not, the Russian engine for us right now is just like the ice on the cake.

It is good if we can keep some as it is still some mature reliable jet engines.

Without the Russian engines, our aircrafts can still fly and not being grounded. And our domestic engines have been proved with a good track of safety record for many years.

As my observation, your new aircrafts can fly, can't fight, ... grounded very often when they mounted with domestic engines.

And to make sure those aircrafts can fly ( not crash ), there're some method as below:
1. Single engine aircraft : powered with Russian engine.
2. New prototype ( even twin engine ): powered with Russian engines

1. We have the single engine aircraft with the domestic engine, but it needs more time to become mature.

2. J-31 needs a pair of small engine, which only Russia has it right now.

Our WS-10A engine is too big to fit into it.
