J-31 possibly being tested & evaluated in Pakistan

Simply relocating some antennas on the prototype due to instrumentation. Nothing out of the ordinary. Compare JF-17 prototypes vs the production variants.

What i have been told is that the Azam project is on the drawing boards and PAF is very interested in the J-31 it'self.
I had a couple of questions for the project director of project Azm but unfortunately, his seminar got postponed.
Currently, we are at initial stage for such an ambitious plan. We are still developing human resources for it. With relatively lack of funds and a bit late start, I am not much optimistic. We most probably still won't develop engine etc which are critical components of self sufficiency whenever the Fifth gen aircraft operationalizes. I wonder what is the definition of indigenous?
Currently, we are solo and only have an aircraft design on the paper which too was rejected.

Why will you ruin your relationship with CAC by going for a rival jet from SAC?

You can bet your fingers CAC has a successor to the JF-17 for the PAF.

I doubt it will be seen as a rival jet to the CAC project besides, J-31 is almost ready to go into production, the Azam project maybe a decade away.

How about partnering up with another country? Any of the major GCC countries come to mind.

And if the Saudis don't agree, you can threaten to take the project to the Iranians. :D

A better design would be a single engine design based on the J-20's new engine, which CAC can develop rather quickly. If Project Azm is an independent Pakistani design, then these two jets will complement each other rather than compete.

This project will take a decade just to get the feasibility studies done and the paper design right, if Pakistan intends to do it alone.

Yes, funds are needed, human resources are essential, but what I am worried about is the new ACM and his plans. I did not like his body language from the beginning. He is definitely part of the 'old guard' and he has an air about him that screams he plans to make major changes in the way things are done.

The biggest danger to Azm is lack of vision and interest from the top. May Allah help us. Aameen.

Study has started 2 years ago. Expect prototype by 2025 and serial production by 2030-33
It's not 100% musty indigenous no cheating honest project like LCA so should be able to stick to schedule unless financially PAF gets in teouble

That timeline is not realistic considering what @M.Musa said earlier, that the only paper design made was rejected.
That was some time ago.
If partner up with another country, the project might speed up but for now we are not mulling over it. If we partner up China and Turkey are the most probable choices. 12-15 years is the least we need.
But the good thing is that the project has started & progressing with modest pace and whole PAF is focusing on the mission...at least for now.

Prototype might be flying by 2027-29... Hope our financial situation gets better by then.

If PAF buys J31 Azam is dead or delayed.
jF-17 blk 3 will be a match to F-16 blk-52.
It's best for PAF to stick with jF-17 blk3 until Azam concludes.
