It's 4.5 generation because the US government defines its class as any 4th generation aircraft with AESA upgrades; besides, the aforementioned aircraft have enhancements such as RAM, composites, upgraded engines, new cockpits, and more. And do you not know the meaning of "expect"? I was clearly stating my own opinion on the price.

No one knows for sure。

Even if it is true，the purchase is a stop-gap measure to speed up the replacement of aging J-7s and J-8s which still number in hundreds in PLAAF's fleet。It is also a show of political closeness of the two countries China and Russia。A third reason is to balance a two-way trade that's is greatly skewed to China‘s advantage。

After all，military acquisition is never just about the military。
