No and I don't say this because of personal reasons. It is well documented that ofcourse it gives bang for its buck, the buck being under 20 million an aircraft. but it is still considered a mediocre aircraft to other top line ones. Now if you just want to call it better than F16 top liners then go for it...I can claim the paper rocket in my house is as good as a radio controlled aircraft too..does not make it one.

let's put this way, the Chinese themselves don't want these in their fleet either at all or very many of them. they themselves are not too keen have it in their arsenal. certainly they would have if this was better than top line aircraft's , let alone better than F16's latest series

Instead of wasting time waiting for LCA, why not get good one like JF17?

your statement of "transitioning" from jf17 to su30 makes no sense. the basic principle of operating a jet fighter,jf17, su30 or kafir, is the same and SLAAF has been operating them for a while. like i said, the deciding factor is the cost because there is no threat to counter

Actually , you make little sense..
The idea is not just of transitioning into a new fighter. There is a whole logistical base that needs to be developed..
Infrastructure.. etc.
Please understand the costs that go into inducting new fighters.

I think if Sri Lanka buy JF-17, they will received the WS-13 Taishan engine rather than RD-93 engine. I believe the handover period will be late 2014 which sure WS-13 will make it for this plane. WS-13 has already enter the late stage of testing on JF-17 prototype. It will be finalised soon. Russia veto is useless. In fact, Russian will be more than happy if they can sell their engine for JF-17.

un liky by looking at their gdp , its three times..even with tremendous growth it takes 7-8 years to double GDP(GDP doubling= 70/growth)
but with your current growth of around 5 it would take 12 years to just reach 3.4 billion mark..(china has gdp of 5.7 vs 1.7 of india)


at that time your population will increase too(unlike chinese slow growth) meaning there wouldnot be much percapita change

so how can u catch up with china when your growth is slower than theirs and your population growth rate is higher..its mathematically impossible

i think srilanka needs the cheapest 4th gen plan to acquire and operate which is also a fully multirole, and to be honest other than thunder there isnt much available there.
i think they can acquire 6-12 fighters in batches

they will obviously be foreign assembled

Burning with jealousy not becos India can outdone Sri Lanka with 126 Rafale against 6 JF-17... Jealous becos Indian alway think highly of themselves in the region can't even supply your so called neighbour with worthy military hardware and spread your influence.

Even Pakistan can sell their own JF-17 to neighbour friends.. A big country like Indian got nothing to offer? Hajut?? Indian shall go learn how to make Mig-21.. at least Bangledesh will buy from your all if neccessary.

Too bad your LCA is still not operational yet, even it is. It will be subject to American approval, french, Israel approval for the amount of foreign input into the jet. Not to mention, the price per unit can never match JF-17..

Do u really think that ties between a country like Pakistan and Srilanka would bother India in a big way.Yes of course the diplomats sitting in New Delhi would raise their brows a bit.But here we are talking about 6 jets and that too JF 17 which I am sure even the Chinese members would agree is a 4th gen AC.If the Tejas gets FOC within year or two even the LCA would be 4.5 Gen AC !!Lastly from where does the question of strong ties between Pak and Lanka arise in the first place since everyone knows that JF 17 is an entirely Chinese made AC.The Pakistanis only funded the program since the Chinese were disinterested in continuing with the program because the PLAAF disapproved of it's induction. . . .But the Chinese being as intelligent as they are started looking out for a Dumba** nation so the money already wasted doesn't go in vain and they could also sell the product to that very same country.
