Israeli Air Force chief: We are ready to deal with Iran

^^ Dude we all know about those failed tests for which plutonium was aquired by tempering with civilian nuclear reactors provided by US.
During the process of tempring serious leaks of radiation were reported.
Perhaps the detonation was process was designed by indians.
Til 1998 no more tests were carried out and immediately after sucessful tests AQK network collapsed.

US to activate anti-missile radar in Israel

Agence France Presse

JERUSALEM: A radar system, which the United States agreed in July to deploy in Israel to counter a perceived missile threat from Iran, is to go operational in mid-December, army radio reported on Saturday.

The US military technicians who will operate the system are currently carrying out the final tests, the radio said.

The radar system, which has a range of more than 2,000 kilometres (1,250 miles), has been installed in the Negev desert in southern Israel.

Some 120 US troops have been deployed to Israel to set up and operate the system, public radio reported in late September.

US Defence Secretary Robert Gates agreed to the deployment after Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak and army chief Lieutenant General Gabi Ashkenazi made separate visits to Washington in July to discuss the perceived Iranian threat.

It was formally announced by the Pentagon early last month.

Iran boasts a number of ballistic missiles with the range to hit targets in the Jewish state and both Israel and its US ally suspect Iran of seeking to develop a nuclear warhead under cover of its civilian nuclear programme.

The two governments' concerns are expected to top the agenda of outgoing Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's White House talks with US President George W. Bush on Monday.

"The idea here is to help Israel create a layered missile defence capability to protect it from all sorts of threats in the region, near and far," a senior Pentagon official told AFP in late July.

The so-called X-band radar system, also known as an AN/TPY2, is a powerful phased array radar that is designed to track ballistic missiles through space and provide ground-based missiles with the targeting data needed to intercept them.

The United States deployed a similar system to Japan in 2006 in response to a North Korean missile test. It plans to install a larger one in the Czech Republic.

The Pentagon was scheduled to deploy the radar to Israel in the autumn of 2009 for a joint exercise but moved it up a year following the talks in Washington earlier this year.

The system includes two massive radar antennae which have been under construction near the Dimona nuclear plant in the Negev.

Israel to free 250 prisoners before Muslim holiday: Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas says Israel will free 250 prisoners as a goodwill gesture before an upcoming Muslim holiday. Abbas said at a conference in the northern West Bank town of Nablus on Saturday that Israel will release the prisoners before Eid al-Adha, an important Muslim holiday expected to take place on Dec. 8. Muslims follow a lunar calendar, and the actual date of religious holidays can vary slightly.

Several rockets fired into Israel as blockade tightens: Palestinian militants on Saturday fired several rockets into Israel from the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip as the Jewish state kept 18-day-long blockade in place.

Abu Ali Mustafa brigades of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) claimed responsibility for launching two rockets into Israeli coastal city of Ashkelon.

"This shelling comes in response to the continued crimes and siege by the enemy," the brigades said in a statement sent to the media. "The enemy's settlers are not immune as long as the Palestinian people are not."

Why in the hell should we get into Middle East mess?Look, theres no Muslim Ummah. You want Pakistan to be bombed along with Iran?US can do it because they're powerful; we're not.Plus Iranis have not helped us anyway. They're not Pro-Pakistani.

I beg to differ with your 'defeatist' attitude. There is no US power superiority anymore, you are not fimilar with the financial crsis. Us cant even afford the current wars, let alone new ones. Give me 2 ways how US can sustain its current spending.

Iranian government isnt pro-pakistan Iranians are. Kindly dont act to be an expert on some area without actually visiting the land/country. There has to be a first step for muslim brotherhood, the reason for creation of Pakistan was universal muslim brotherhood. Muslim ummah will not be created in a laboratory, it will be when someone takes a step. Pakistan took this step in bhutto era, however, with bhutto it was demolished, but only for time being. Muslim brotherhood will rise again, and with whole world comming down to muslim lands, its the right time.

Keep your defeatist attitude within yourself or go join US forces and fight in Iraq.

I asked

My dear, historically Iran has be aligned with indian and they have given lot of bussiness and job opportunities to indians. If you go to Iran u will find indians working in all resturants and factories.
iranian rulers had not been fair with Pakistan.
They were negotiating covertly with AQK, and middle men were indians working out of Dubai and that's how india suceeded in its nuclear programme and thus detonated its device in 1998.
Imagine the middle men got the technology free while Iran kept paying for the expenses of the dealing.

However every thing is possible but iran have to show same compassion about Pakistanis as you and me have for iran and iranians.

You read news reported by clown intelligence or some thing INDIANS got there technology from AQ khan where do u get this thats a biggest joke i have ever herd in my life.

OK I am going to ask u this just once when was the last time Saudis or any other Arab country deported Any Indian out of their country for you when was the last time any Arab country supported you against India in any UN resoulution wanna no the answers ''O''.just recently saudies told your primeminister to take a hike when he went there to ask for bail out money.yet here you are totally clueless whats wrong with you man dont you read or hatred of iran wont let you see reality.

Israeli squadron devising attack on Iran?

The Israeli Air Force is reportedly holding secret training sessions to prepare for what may be a future attack on Iran's nuclear facilities.

An Israeli squadron is conducting dress rehearsals in the Negev desert, for a strike on Iran's nuclear infrastructureThe Sunday Times reported.

According to the Sunday report, the secret mission could lead to Israel's third and 'easily most dangerous' attack on a nuclear plant in three decades if it gets 'the political go-ahead'. Israel had earlier attacked nuclear plants in Iraq and Syria.

"We feel the future of Israel isn't safe and we want to do what we can to defend it," The Sunday Times quoted a pilot as saying on condition of anonymity.

This comes as some 120 US military personnel in the Nevatim air base near the Negev desert are adding the finishing touches to an advanced X-band radar system, with a range of 1,250 miles that will gravely enhance Israel's tactical capacity in the air.

The system is also believed to be capable of countering Iran's advanced Shahab-3 and the newly-tested Sejjil ballistic missiles. Earlier reports suggested that the system could also facilitate an Israeli air strike on Iran's nuclear facilities.

The Haaretz daily, meanwhile, reported on Sunday that Israeli defense chiefs are calling for contingency plans to be drawn up for military action against the Islamic Republic.

"Israel faces these threats almost alone ... It is imperative to mobilize the international community and obtain regional cooperation. The new American administration is an opportunity to do this," Haaretz quoted one of the military chiefs as saying.

The report came as US President George W. Bush and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert are to hold crucial White House talks in the wake of the latest UN nuclear watchdog report on Iran, which states that the agency 'has been able to continue to verify the non-diversion of declared nuclear material in Iran,' adding that there has been 'no indication' of Iran conducting nuclear reprocessing activities.

The Guardian has confirmed that Olmert sought a green light to strike Iranian nuclear installations in a May 14 meeting with President George W. Bush.

On July 13, The Sunday Times quoted a senior Pentagon official as saying that the Bush administration had given the 'amber light' to an Israeli plan to attack Iran by means of long-range bombing sorties.

"Amber means get on with your preparations, stand by for immediate attack and tell us when you're ready," said the official on condition of anonymity.

On October 12, The Times reported that there is the likelihood of Israel bypassing US warnings and unilaterally striking Iranian nuclear facilities in the same manner Georgia attacked South Ossetia.

"The experience of Georgia has given an amber, if not a green light to Israel (to attack Iran) and only Bush can switch that to red," The Times asserted.

Teheran hanging of spy seen as warning

Teheran is becoming increasingly paranoid about an Israeli attack on its nuclear facilities and is sending strong signals to its citizens to deter them from any espionage, experts say.

The Iranian regime's hanging of convicted "Mossad spy" Ali Ashtari last week, the country's first known espionage conviction linked to Israel in nearly a decade, was performed to warn to its citizens to avoid "falling into the trap of Israel or intelligence agencies of other countries" or sending information to an enemy, Menashe Amir, an Israeli expert on Iranian affairs and chief editor of the Foreign Ministry's Persian-language Web site, told The Jerusalem Post on Sunday.

"The killing of Ashtari came in order to deter scientists and technicians and anyone connected to Iran's nuclear program to be careful and not to come into contact with foreign agents," Amir said. "There are more and more Iranians who are already convinced that [the nuclear program] may hurt the national interest, so they look at it as a national interest to pass information to other nations to work and prevent the Iranians from going on [with the program]."

Iran has been severely hit by the global economic crisis and the regime has become increasingly unpopular, which could also encourage espionage, said Eldad J. Pardo, an Iran expert and a lecturer in the Middle Eastern Studies Department at the Hebrew University.

The Islamic republic is particularly concerned about the leakage of any information "since it augments international pressure" to halt its nuclear program, Pardo said. "I think they are afraid that big pressure is coming to them now from [US President-elect Barack] Obama. He's much more popular in the world [than President George W. Bush] and he seems to be tough... Obama said clearly that the US is not going to accept an Iran with nuclear weapons."

It is easy for the Iranian government to accuse Ashtari of being a Mossad agent, even though the charge might be false, experts say.

The Mossad is a more important symbol to Teheran than any other intelligence agency and it's clear that Israel is most affected by the production of an Iranian nuclear weapon, Amir said. Yet Teheran's nuclear project attracts attention from many intelligence agencies around the world, not just Israel's, Pardo added.

An International Atomic Energy Agency report released last week confirmed Iran's refusal to heed Security Council demands to freeze uranium enrichment and stated that the Islamic republic has enriched about 630 kilograms of low-enriched uranium suitable for nuclear fuel. Some analysts contend that the amount is enough to upgrade into a nuclear weapon.

The report, along with estimates that Iran will have its first atomic bomb within a year, "have encouraged the strengthening of any plan to prevent Iranians to have a bomb before it's too late," Amir said.

Iran and Israel are "drawing near to the climax of the conflict," Amir said. Not only because of the nuclear issue, but because Teheran is increasingly giving weapons to Hizbullah in Lebanon to deter an Israeli attack, he said.

In addition, the Islamic republic is supplying large quantities of cash and weapons to Hamas and Islamic Jihad in Gaza to lead to a collapse of the tahadiyeh security calm and to create tension in an effort to overshadow the continuation of Iran's nuclear program, Amir said.

Israel might not no choice but to act alone against Iran's nuclear weapons program if the international community did not take concerted action, he said.

"Relations are very tense" between Israel and Iran, Amir said. "The more time that passes, the more chances increase that Israel will be forced to cope alone with an Iranian nuclear weapon, particularly after the report from [IAEA chief Mohamed] ElBardei" released last week, Amir said.

Europeans are most concerned with the current economic crisis and they don't have the will to deal with the Iran issue, he said. In addition, the US government is now in transition, which paralyzes any decisive action on its part.

"The Europeans are not willing to endanger their short-range economic and political interests by participating in a kind of action that will involve negative reactions from the Iranian side," Amir said. "It may produce a situation where Israel will be obliged to act alone."

But Amir argues that Iran, which is also troubled by a political crisis and political infighting, would likely give in to the right amount of political, economic and military pressure from the international community.

"Iran is determined to continue [with its nuclear program] - in any situation and under any conditions - but it [only] has a certain level of tolerance for pressure," he said. "If there will be impossible pressure, they will not be able to withstand it and they will break... They will abandon their nuclear plans."

Russian intelligence sees U.S. military buildup on Iran border
17:31 | 27/ 03/ 2007

MOSCOW, March 27 (RIA Novosti) - Russian military intelligence services are reporting a flurry of activity by U.S. Armed Forces near Iran's borders, a high-ranking security source said Tuesday.

"The latest military intelligence data point to heightened U.S. military preparations for both an air and ground operation against Iran," the official said, adding that the Pentagon has probably not yet made a final decision as to when an attack will be launched.

He said the Pentagon is looking for a way to deliver a strike against Iran "that would enable the Americans to bring the country to its knees at minimal cost."

He also said the U.S. Naval presence in the Persian Gulf has for the first time in the past four years reached the level that existed shortly before the invasion of Iraq in March 2003.

Col.-Gen. Leonid Ivashov, vice president of the Academy of Geopolitical Sciences, said last week that the Pentagon is planning to deliver a massive air strike on Iran's military infrastructure in the near future.

A new U.S. carrier battle group has been dispatched to the Gulf.

The USS John C. Stennis, with a crew of 3,200 and around 80 fixed-wing aircraft, including F/A-18 Hornet and Superhornet fighter-bombers, eight support ships and four nuclear submarines are heading for the Gulf, where a similar group led by the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower has been deployed since December 2006.

The U.S. is also sending Patriot anti-missile systems to the region.

Israel military urges contingency plan for Iran strike

* Defence chiefs see ‘Iran’s threat to Israel’s survival’ as greatest challenge
* Recommend prevention of deal between Washington and Tehran that would undermine Israeli interests

JERUSALEM: A security assessment drawn up by Israeli defence chiefs calls for contingency plans to be drawn up for military action against Iran, the Haaretz daily reported on Sunday.

The assessment, to be presented to ministers next month as part of the National Security Council’s annual review, also calls for Israel to prevent new Palestinian elections at all costs, even at the expense of a row with its US ally, the paper said. Defence chiefs put “Iran’s threat to Israel’s survival” at the top of the list of challenges they face, followed by the “strategic threat” of long-range missiles and rockets from various countries in the region.

“Israel faces these threats almost alone,” Haaretz quoted the report as saying. “It is imperative to mobilise the international community and obtain regional co-operation. The new American administration is an opportunity to do this.”Defence chiefs warn that Israel has a limited window in which to act before Iran obtains nuclear arms and regional hegemony. They call for Israel to establish a military option against Iran, in case other countries abandon the struggle, and advise the cabinet to “work discreetly on contingency plans to deal with a nuclear Iran.”

Their assessment also recommends close cooperation with the United States to prevent a deal between Washington and Tehran that would undermine Israeli interests. The leaking of the report came as outgoing Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert was due in Washington for talks with US President George W Bush which were expected to be dominated by the perceived threat from Iran.

The two governments suspect Tehran of seeking to develop an atomic weapon under cover of its civilian nuclear programme, a charge Iran strongly denies. Washington is installing an advanced radar system in Israel to boost defences against any ballistic missile threat from Iran. It will go operational in mid-December, army radio reported on Saturday. afp

I hope that this becomes the last aggression of the axis of evil.

Just check their recruitment policy

......based on factors such as high grades in school and top scores on standardized tests, excellent physical condition and high technical aptitude. Those who meet these and other criteria are invited to participate in a six-day gibush (cohesion), a selection phase involving physical, mental, and sociometric challenges. Recruits are screened not only for their ability to perform the tasks assigned, but for their attitude in performing them —such as how they take hardships and unexpected difficulties, how well they work in groups and how they approach problem solving and disaster management situations. As many as 90 percent of those who commence the gibush will be dropped from further consideration at its conclusion.

Those who pass the gibush embark on a three-year journey to earn their wings, which includes extensive flight training, infantry training, officer's course, and studies towards an academic degree (a B.A. or B.Sc.). The prospective pilots are evaluated constantly, and the vast majority of those who begin flight training do not make it through the full program. Those expelled from the course will either remain in the air force in a non-flying capacity, or transfer to an army unit; this is dependent to a large degree on the stage at which they leave the course.

While in flying school, future pilots are sorted and assigned to train on different types of aircraft. Few become fighter pilots (considered by some to be the most desirable assignment), while the remainder learn to fly helicopters, transport aircraft, or train as navigators.

The pilot course was opened to women in 1995, though the first female pilot did not receive her wings until 2001 ....
.

IMO, many airforces around the world have similar standards when it comes to pilot selection….

For example, it seems almost identical selection process that PAF follows….Instead of Gibush, we call it the ISSB where candidates spend 4 to 5 days and go thru all sorts of tests i.e physical fitness, intelligence, individual / group tasks, intellectual assessments, various personality tests and the daunting interview in the end….

Once selected for Airforce, it’s almost 3 and half years of rigorous training at academy. According to rough figures, only 20% of the cadets graduate as pilot or we can also say that for each 1000 candidates that go thru ISSB, only 2 make it as fighter pilots…..Attrition rate is specially very high during flying training and the ones who cant make it are offered various ground branches within PAF. And the ones who are dropped during the advanced fighter training (e.g. OCUs) are sent to helicopters or transport aircrafts…

Although I am not aware of the selection process for Indian Airforce, but I am pretty sure that figures will be very similar for them as well…

Please also check my earlier post ( # 28 ) in another thread; it will also give you a bit more details on this subject...

http://www.defence.pk/forums/milita...-20-t-37-aircrafts-post185872.html#post185872

As far as the attack on Iran by Israeli Airforce (IAF), I agree with Cheetah 786….The main reason for IAFs success in earlier attacks was that they achieved the very basic element i.e SURPRISE…..They trained secretly for months before Iraq’s reactor attack…IAF pilots leaned Arabic, Iraq’s Radio procedures, imitated their every modus operandi, flew various simulated attacks secretly and once they were ready and all set…BOOM…

However, in the case of Iran they might be doing everything except that they cant keep Shut about it….IAF has been so vocal about it that one wonders if they really intend to attack Iran…Why all this media hype? Why so publicity? Why these scare tactics? Where is the surprise gone that IAF was famous for? Why giving so many indicators to Iran? :undecided:

IMO, IAF will never attack Iran’s nuclear bases. If they wanted, probably they would have done it by now while W. Bush was in office….Its too late now… Attacking Iran means that starting another war and stakes are already high in the region considering the volatile economic crisis that has gripped the whole world by its balls…

I hope the sanity prevails and both sides (Israel & Iran) keep their calm and stop upsetting the rest of us with their radical attitudes…
