There are lots of people who are already disappeared. This is nothing new. We live in a new type of democracy. Improvement in system is necessary and criticism should be allowed. Criticism is part of democracy. There is nothing like good or bad institutions. We must progress. We can learn lesson from India. There is no shame. Democracy worked best under Congress in India. There are still people in India who criticize government and institutes. I see no hope here. This whole system is so corrupt that there is no choice but to sit silent.

There is no due process in qualifying who is a journalist and what journalism is.
Anyone who is too dumb to make it to engineering, medical, business colleges,
goes for Media studies and then becomes a journalist with little training.

As for rules, each and every TV news channel etc are making money / minute for the content they gather for free from all over the place. So what is the punishment for publishing inaccurate reports ?

Agree. And on the last part, legitimate avenues as well as less egregious but still illegitimate avenues for dealing with coverage that is incorrect (or coverage that the security establishment doesn't like) do exist already, and are already practised.

In terms of what's already par for the course: media owners get phone calls which beseech them to reconsider bout their editorial line and coverage, whether they comply depends on who's calling and what the subject matter is. PEMRA can legitimately take the media to task in a lot of cases, and where the powerful still want action taken legitimate or not, PEMRA can be activated to anything from politely asking the media to reconsider their coverage, to messing with channel rankings, to censoring and starving of ad revenues, to taking channels off air. Another avenue as we discussed above is the legal one that is the best one to adopt... if someone is defaming you, use defamation laws and cripple their ability to speak on the matter under contempt of court, and strip them of the credibility and the means to besmirch or slander you ever again.

I think we can do a lot better than India. Right now they are in the throws of an ugly kind of fascism that will rot their civil society for a while. We have the potential for a much more robust democracy, but the powerful are too closely guarding their privileges to concede anything in the name of progress.

This ought to be the job of FIA to investigate....
But no one trusts FIA whose job it ought to be.
FIA is full of corruption and therefore even if needle gets misplaced call upon ISI.
Blame them you know why because civilian agency are so incompetent and corrupt to do there job.

I listened what Hamid Mir said. As I have said earlier, there is a history of attacks on journalist in Pakistan. This is nothing new. We have people who never returned home. I think superior powers are controlling this country. Sometimes I feel sad for Imran Khan as well. These powers are invisible but journalists knows everything. Nobody can take action against superior forces. All in all, we are a corrupt system with no hope for improvement. Every journalist is not paid journalist. I feel sorry for this journalist. He was beaten very badly. Have you ever seen anything like that in India? Democracy and communism are two different concepts.
I agree that Hamid Mir crossed his limits but superior powers should also consider stop taking actions. Journalists are also human beings and are part of system.

There was a high-level communication between the ministry and the ISI. ISI has denied any links to the attack on journalist Asad Toor, according to Pakistan’s ministry of Information ISI will fully cooperate with the investigative agencies, ISI believes that the faces of accused are clear in CCTV, investigation should go ahead accordingly.

According to press release ISI believes it’s being targeted in the 5th generation warfare, accusations against institutions without evidence should end. Such traditions are part of conspiracy against institutions and real culprits will soon be exposed.

Why are the ever so "brilliant" investigative journalists in Pakistan not challenging Ali with the facts? Image one is from the initial assault, his forearm is exposed and no visible contusions or abrasions are found. This second image his home address where he shows same forearm covered significant scarring and contusions.

Secondly, pay close attention to this image as Ali now has significant crep bandage running down the length of his forearm and is wearing an improvised sling, whereas in the previous images on social media he had bandages on his elbows only.

Ali is claiming he had damage to his elbow, this is nonsense. This image shows he has full range of movement in his wrist, he has fine motor control of his digits being able to grip the mobile phone, facemask and his car keys.

Anyone who has ever had golfer's or tennis elbow can tell you how weak the grip becomes, the range of movement and wrist flexion as seen in photo would be painful if any radiograph-negative injury / soft tissue damage was suspected around the capitellum or potential radial tunnel / bursitis / extensor tendon.

How shameless and pathetic does one have to be to sell their own integrity and the prestige of thier nation for a small price.
