I have been trying to write a blog for quite some time now. I first felt like writing when Pakistan was under the scrutiny of International media, and Abbotabad was on every news Channel, be it Urdu, Hindi, English or even languages I didnt even know existed. OBL killed in a Call of Duty kind of operation in a Million Dollar mansion.
I was even compelled to write when a huge massacre was taking place in Burma, heart-shattering videos surfaced on Internet, the sincerity in the tears of First Lady of Turkey, But Alas! Emotions were hard to pen.
Today, I am penning my thoughts, not as a Pakistani, not even as a Muslim, but as a Human, as a member of this society we so proudly call Global Village. With the Surfacing of the new trailer or the movie, Innocence of Muslims, Sam Bacile (the Producer) has stirred a new International unrest. Funny, how the actions of one mentally challenged person in California, makes people all over the world come out in the streets, some global village this is!
After watching so many edited photos and posts on my Facebook, and then following all the international media show unrest all over the world, I finally surfed the trailer and saw it for my self. To say it the least, I was shocked, not at, as much as the trailer but at the thinking behind the movie. Every script of every scene has some hidden meaning, sometimes to teach the audience, some times thought provoking while other time simply to share the writers views. This movie does not seem based on any kinds of facts, and it seems after reading from the synopsis that the main mens-rea or the intent of the movie is probably to hurt the feeling over a billion Muslims all over the world.
This is not the first time the sentimental feelings of the Muslims were hurt, and Im sure this isnt the last time. What they consider as the Freedom of speech, we consider Blasphemous. I was extremely impressed by Imran Khans co-relation of the Holocaust and Freedom of Speech. Why is it that I can Burn American Flag in USA, call all the religious leaders by names and even burn religious scriptures under the pretext of freedom of speech. But when it comes to the reality of Holocaust, I am not allowed to speak. I may not be given any attention; just writing this blog might even get me killed.
Discussing such an issue is of sentimental nature to the Jews, so they get hurt. Their feelings are damaged. So when we, a billion Muslims scattered over this globe, have sentimental affiliations with out Prophet (PBUH) and will never tolerate a word against him, why cant it be not considered as freedom of speech.
A came across a lot of criticism, while comparing this incident with that of the killing of six million Jews. But over here, there are a Billion devoted followers of a man, who is being mocked; a billion people are killed emotionally with this movie. Holocaust for me is not a reality, neither a fact, its a doctrine, which showed the worst limit, and the deepest pit humanity can touch. Comparing that with this is wrong, because this movie doesnt only shows the worst limits, but also the worst intentions and thinking. This incident, and the Danish Cartoon incidents before it, is all just part of an Islamic Holocaust, which the Muslims of 21st century are facing. You talk about sic million innocent Jews getting killed, what about the thousands of Muslims killed in Pakistan drone strikes, Kashmir, Afghanistan, Iraq, Bosnia, Palestine. What about the continuous prosecution of Muslims in America where they are not even given the basic liberty rights of a free trial? What about the innocent Muslims who are humiliated at every airport, and other port of entries? What about the bright star, Aafia Siddiqi, who was not given any freedoms of speech or other wise.
When it comes to the Muslims, the freedoms of speech are high and tall like the China wall, its reiterated as by latest press release by Hillary Clinton, that the movie is part of the freedom of speech. But when I question holocaust, when I express my ideas, my thoughts, then suddenly it becomes a matter of national interest.
Today there is huge unrest in all major parts of the world due to this incident, it is the intent of the writer that instead of burning building, roads and flags, all Muslims should rather unite and stand up for the movement of the petition that Islamic beliefs and the personnel affiliated to it are no joke. And they are sensitive issues which should be treated accordingly as Holocaust is treated, with no room for freedom of speech in the matter. Let the freedom of speech remain in Guantanamo Bay prisons, and dont ask dont tell policies of NATO forces!
