i think u r overestimating the RAW. yes we did support the mukti bahini. but it was basically the GoP shooting itself in the foot with its policies in Bangladesh that did the trick.
any attempts to do another Bangladesh will be, to sugarcoat it, "moronic".
pakistan has nukes now and in the off chance that chaos reminiscent of mukti bahini days affects pakistan, those nukes could go rogue.
right now the nukes are very very safe.
we want to them to stay safe. so no more carving pakistan into smaller countries.
Let us not confuse the tactics of 40 years ago and debate whether they would work today in 2009-2010.
Bangladesh simply put was an impossibility and all India did was to right the unnatural state of affairs and bring about neutral balance ..... or if at all, tilted our way.
Balochistan and the rest of the troubled West flank of Pakistan on the other hand have different dynamics.
As do the geopolitics of today.
There is obviously no place for IA intervention in any of these regions. And there is no pressing need to.
For India, Pakistan on the boil in the North-West suits us perfectly. We have no interest in that part of the world for any other reason than to keep our neighbour occupied. An idle mind is the devil's workshop they say.
North of that we will of course continue to diligently work towards regaining
our land from hostile occupation, cutting off Pakistan from China, and re-establishing the land link we have shared with the ubiquitous Kabuliwallah from historic friend Afghanistan.
All the while continuing our good work in Afghanistan as a mature responsible friendly regional power, helping rebuild their country, and their military presence on their troubled border with Pakistan to ensure their continued national security once the US and NATO forces leave.
Balochistan is an issue where India will not be the only country Pakistan would have to deal with ..... so we can afford to maintain a neutral stance for the present and allow things to move naturally to a head via indigenous forces ..... as is happening.
We must of course realise that unlike Afghanistan, Balochistan has an extensive coastline.
That still leaves us with the rest of Pakistan .... Punjab and younger sibling, Sindh. These are where the power and money strings have always lied. These are where the nuclear and military buttons also lie.
Nothing is changing there ..... as the status quo on the Eastern flank is
allowed to continue.
So your threat perception of a gung-ho back-to-the-wall rogue nuclear state is unfounded (assuming of course that Pakistan's finger continues to be the only one on the button at that time).
Remember, if you drop a frog into a pot of boiling water, he will be scalded and jump out.
But if you place a frog in a pot of water and slowly bring it to a boil, the frog will simply sit there and get cooked.
The glorious days of face to face pitched battle with resounding bugle calls are over. The world recognises that.
As I have said before in a post some time ago, there are other ways of peeling an orange.
Cheers, Doc
