And oh by the way ex-actress Musarat Shaheen recited the verses (Ayatul qursi and Sura kosar) promptly so no religious nut should resort to her charachter assissination now.

she is contesting against Maulana Fazlur Rehman

I agree with you, but the law is in place...so how do you verify the credibility of the candidate? This is where the ECP and government failed. ECP didb't set any guidelines, and the government did not amend the law or finish it altogether. Because let's face it, this law is stupid...

Simple question. How do you verify the credibility of the candidate.

Now, asking them to recite Islamic verses of candidate is not a test of the credibility or moral character of the person either.

You might as well as them to recite 'ringa ringa roses' instead because reciting some text either Islamic or a prose both lead to the same result.

Either of them cannot tell about the moral character or credibility of the person.

For the last time...the recitation of verses is not to judge the moral character of a person, but to verify whether the person has adequate religious knowledge or not.

Moral character is another hoopla...which cannot be adjudged by a single person anywhere. The only one who can judge somebody's true character is Allah Himself.

For the time being all have to follow article 62-63.

may be next parliament change these articles

But Religious knowledge is not a criteria in article 62 - Actually it is supposed to judge moral character, yes it's stupid, but it is what it is

save for the burgers of Large cities...the ultra rich land lords of Rural areas and some lost folks..The majority of the population of Pakistan still finds guidence from Islam and wants a life as per Islamic values if not Islamic Laws...
If the Rulers dont know tha basics of Islam they cannot represent the very people they are ruling..its as simple as that.

In my opinion, rulers may know may not know the basic knowledge of Islam, but they must be competent leader and hardworking, visionary

It is my humble opinion that a "Technically" muslim candidate with traits like leadership, vision and desire to do good to society is more worthy than a candidate who knows Islamic values but lack the traits mentioned above

And if it is necessary for a leader to know basics of Islam, so that he can handle the people better, a short course can be arranged for him so that he learns basics of Islam, after he is elected and till he finishes the course he may seek guidance from his advisers
