Is USA a friend or enemy of Turkey? You decide.

Here's my opinion. This is just a partial list but you still get the picture:
  • 1960 coup d'etat in Turkey by USA-backed generals where they toppled the government elected by the Turkish public and installed a military regime. Many Turks were tortured and killed.
  • 1962 muhtıra where USA-backed Kur. Albay Talat Aydemir organized a resistance to handing Turkey's control over to an elected civilian government.
  • 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis where USA had nuclear Jupiter missiles in Turkey completely disregarded Turkey's security and national interests for the benefit of its own. All US negotiations with the Soviets were done without consultations with Turkey. This risked a nuclear attack on Turkey by the Soviet Union.
  • 1964 Johnson Letter where the USA insulted, ridiculed and threatened Turkey with very serious repercussions.
  • 1969 coupe d'etat attempt by USA-backed general Sunay who replaced publicly-elected civilian Demirel.
  • 1971 muhtıra where USA-backed generals forced Turkey's elected civilian government to resign.
  • 1974 hashish crisis where USA threatened Turkey to stop its narcotic agriculture which resulted in Turkey having to import almost all its medicines from USA and Europe.
  • 1974 embargo due to Cyprus Peace Operation which had saved thousands Turkish-Cypriot lives from the Greek junta. USA had supported and protected the Greeks at the expense of the Turks.
  • 1980 coup d'etat in Turkey by USA-backed generals where they toppled the government elected by the Turkish public and installed a military regime. Many Turks were tortured and killed.
  • 1992 TCG Muavenet Incident where US purposefully fired TWO Sea Sparrow missiles on our ship and killed many Turkish sailors during a "NATO exercise".
  • 1997 muhtıra (28 Subat) where USA-backed generals forced Turkey's elected civilian government to resign.
  • 2003 Çuval Olayı where American soldiers arrested Turkish soldiers in Northern Iraq and ridiculed them by putting dirty sacks on their heads, which was taken as yet another insult to the Turkish nation.
  • 2007 muhtıra (27 Nisan e-muhtıra) by USA-backed generals (Yasar Buyukanit et al.) who again threatened to topple a democratically elected civilian government.
  • 2016 coup d'etat attempt (15 Temmuz) by USA-backed GULENIST generals who once again tried to topple a democratically elected civilian government and install a pro-USA military junta controlled by FETO from Pennsylvania, USA. Hundreds of Turks died and Turkish economy suffered immensely as a result.
  • 8 Ekim 2017 visa crisis where USA refused to issue new visas for Turkish citizens just because Turkey arrested a Turk who was suspected of spying for the USA, very much proving Turkey's point.
  • 2018 F-35 contract breach where the US refused to deliver 4 x F-35s already bought and paid for by Turkey.
  • Andrew Brunson espionage incident
  • US refusal to sell Turkey Patriot missile defense systems
  • US refusal to sell Turkey UAV/UCAVs
  • US refusal to sell Turkey helicopter engines for T-129s to be delivered to Pakistan
  • 1991-present American support of PKK/YPG terrorist organization that has killed 40,000 Turks and wounded tens of thousands more. USA continues to support, finance, train and arm PKK/YPG militants against Turkey.
  • USA oil/has companies have signed deals with Greek and Greek Cyptiot governments and do drilling activities that violate Turkey's and Turkish Cyprus' EEZ rights.
  • USA arrested Halkbank official Hakan Atilla due to "violating Iran sanctions"
  • USA has been refusing to extradite Fethullah Gulen and othar FETO terrorists despite Turkey's having provided proof of their involvement in 15 Temmuz, violating bilateral extradition treaties and Interpol protocols.
  • USA has recognized the so-called "Armenian Genocide"
  • USA routinely manipulates TRY-USD exchange rates at strategically calculated intervals to undermine, slow down and sabotage Turkish economic growth.
  • And so on and so forth....
Hrmmm. Should I think America is our FRIEND or ENEMY?

Hard to say. :D

You know the answer to this already.

Neither But during the Cold War ties were only close because of the Soviet threat but came at the expense of developing a proper Turkish domestic and foreign policy that benefited Turkey and the Turkish people once Cold War over not needed as much unless US doing funny business in Middle East and again sorta countering Russia and low key China

But I think as American power projection fades and NATO becomes toothless organization Turkey will have more wiggle room which could then move from neutral to just plain enimity

Based on Turkey's experiences with the USA, it's very much crystal clear as to what category a patriotic Turk (and pretty much any Muslim) would vote for. I've never understood why anyone would shy away from labeling America a foe unless there's literally an American holding a gun to their head.

As for Greece and Turkey United States could give not two hoots about the Hagia Sophia,Cyprus or whatever BS is between Ankara and Athens the point is historically the Greek-American community mainly in NYC and Northeast have been in the US longer than most Turks I grew up with loads of Greeks and remember each year seeing sighs condemning Turkish policy in Aegean or Cyprus one aspect is lobbying but main aspect is both Greece and Turkey especially were important in Cold War to prevent Eastern and Soviet bloc expansion now its more or less trying to prevent Moscow from controlling the Med and Aegean

You should add a third option, neither nor .

If we are basing it on Muslim ummah wise different story I would say Foe but you are asking in terms of Turkey I would say it's been mostly cordial cause of the comprador elite in Ankara post Kemal Ataturk

You should add a third option, neither nor .
You ain't impressing anyone by saying some dumb shit like "Oh, it's complicated", etc. If it's too hard to pick between two clear, concise, binary choices, then maybe you shouldn't bother. No one likes a nitpicking, indecisive flik-flak. So please just put your foot down and vote.

After that list, do your reaaly need to ask?
You'd be surprised at how many Turks still think that the US is Turkey's "best friend" despite all that. Fvcking place is like an insane asylum filled with morons with worse memory than neglected fish in a teenager's aquarium.
