Iranian Navy | News and Discussions

TerraServer uploaded some satellite imagery from the 4th of June. The radar tower of Shiraz is visible now, and the whole superstructure seems to be clad in some yellow-ish paint/primer, though that may the light. Sahand looks unchanged.

Sahand, from the water foam that is known to stern, is probably using onboard diesel (electric power generators)

Well spotted! I guess this indicates that Sahand is nearing completion, at least internally.

Does anyone know what this new antenna is?

A photograph released by the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) on 19 June 2017 shows the Iranian frigate Alvand in front of one of the PLAN's Fuchi-class replenishment ships. Alvand has what appears to be a new antenna fitted above its bridge (circled). (People's Liberation Army Navy)

The Islamic Republic of Iran Navy (IRIN) has fitted what appears to be a new antenna to its frigate Alvand that may be for gathering electronic intelligence (ELINT).

Fitted to the roof of the frigate's bridge on the starboard side, the antenna could be seen in imagery showing the ship during a joint exercise with vessels from China's People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) in the Gulf of Oman on 18 June. It was not seen on Alborz , a second Alvand-class frigate that participated in the exercise.

Further analysis shows that the new antenna was not fitted to Alvand when it attended the India Navy's international fleet review in July 2016, but it was seen on the frigate before it left for South Africa in October. That voyage lasted until March due to problems with its support ship.

The IRIN's three surviving Alvand-class frigates were built in the United Kingdom in the 1960s, but remain the workhorses of the Iranian fleet. Iran has adapted the design for the new frigates it is building, the first of which was commissioned in 2010.

Location?

1st two are at Iran's Main midget sub production & repair facility in Bandar Abbas

Search for "ISOICO, Hormozgan Province, Iran" it's the eastern dock in front of the big blue building but if your using google earth you have to go to history and change the date to 3/10/2017
It's the same location where Iran's last Fatteh Class sub was spotted years ago!
