Just a note: Lasers were first invented in Mid 1960s in Bell Labs. One of the two principal scientists was Dr. Javan from Iran.

Iran has come into possession of advanced laser cannons which are used to protect the country’s vital centers, a deputy defense minister said.

General Shahrokh Shahram said Tehran has obtained the technical know-how to manufacture and utilize advanced cannons using high-power laser beams.

“Laser is being used in artillery systems for two purposes, and could help increase the volume of fire, mobility and precision,” he said.

According to the general, Iranian military forces are currently employing laser technology in preparing artillery systems, launching artillery ammunition, and in radars, which would accurately detect, track and hit the hostile targets.

Shahram also noted that Iran has developed homegrown weapons with the laser technology.

The Iranian military forces are in possession of laser-powered weapons that could annihilate stealth aircraft, the military official said, adding that high-power laser beams can damage the composite layers that make a flying object stealth and light and extend its flight endurance.

Iran is using the laser systems to protect its critical and vital centers, he further said, stressing that Iranian military experts are on the cutting edge of laser technology.

In March, Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy Rear Admiral Ali Reza Tangsiri said the Navy has developed a weapon to beat the American anti-drone laser weapon system.

In August 2018, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei urged efforts to boost technologies for manufacturing military components and update training programs.

@PeeD can you comment on the system showed above please?

I would guess the laser projects are still secret and this is just a long range, automatic, optical tracking system to follow missiles or to track and classify satellites. Long range automatic optical classification is also a welcome capability within an IADS.

To be honest I am not so impressed with laser technology... At some point, you can build super powerful lasers from off the shelf hardware. Look up fibre lasers:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiber_laser

It has become so easy nowdays to amply beam through special fibre optics. You can create 100s m long cavity and curl it up in relatively compact form, from there, all you need is a solid state laser that you can literally buy from so many vendors... Then you need adoptive optics to tweak your laser base on atmospheric effects. I would say building Bavar 373 is significantly more difficult. Iran already has access to all these technologies from decades ago.

Earlier, the major challenge was miniaturization of gas lasers (look up Laser Airborne project)... However, since long back it was known that solid state lasers will take over and make these gas lasers obsolete. Today, we are there. US is building lasers that can be mounted on F-35... Imagine going from a 747 Laser Airborne to a laser pod on board a F-35.

Iran is currently building three more Fateh-class submarines and is designing a heavier class submarine according to Admiral Rastegarian the head of the Marine Industries Organization (MIO) in a recent interview with Defapress news agency this week.

we hope to deliver our first heavy-class submarine in the near future. Until Holy Defense Week, we can unveil the first high-speed vessel above 90 nautical miles (about 170 km / h) and another high-speed vessel using turbine engines. we are building the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh destroyers, all of which are destined for the northern Indian Ocean and the Oman Sea. we have plans for 6,000 tons of destroyers with unique capabilities, basic design, concept design and engineering work and details are being done. we hope to deliver the first heavy-duty destroyer built by the Islamic Republic of Iran in the next few years. Yes, we have requests from several friendly countries so far and deals are being done we will deliver them as soon as they are finalized. I hope to produce and install and operate the first 25 MW offshore turbine in the next two years in collaboration with one of the country's turbine makers.
