Iran unveils Saba-248 helicopter

Looks amazing. The sanctions on Iran have been a blessing in disguise. Iran is reaching new heights every single day. To be powerful a country needs to be self sufficient, and Iran is doing pretty well in that endeavor. Good luck, brothers.

Iran has unveiled what it purports to be a new domestically developed and manufactured helicopter, national media announced on 7 March.

The Saba-248, which was reportedly designed and built by Iran's Helicopter Renovation and Logistics Company (PANHA) in partnership with the Defence Ministry's Aviation Industries Organization, was revealed during a ceremony that was attended by top military officials.

Images and footage of the event show the Saba-248 to be a skid-equipped twin-engined, four-bladed utility helicopter that is similar in appearance to Western platforms such as the AgustaWestland AW119 and Bell 427.

Although no performance specifications for the Saba-248 have yet been released, the AW119 and Bell 427 have cruise speeds of 267 km/h and 273 km/h respectively; ranges of 1,013 km and 722 km; maximum take-off weights of 2,720 kg and 3,175 kg; and can carry eight and seven passengers. Judging from appearances, the Saba-248 will be in roughly the same class of performance.

Billed as both a civil and military platform, the Saba-248 is likely to be used by the Iranian armed forces for troop and cargo transportation, battlefield liaison, casualty evacuation, search and rescue, and observation and reconnaissance. The national media reports did not say if it could be armed, and neither did they say how many helicopters might be delivered or when.

As well as being used by Iran, the Saba-248 is to be offered to the international export market with a particular focus on other Muslim nations, national media reported the Iranian defence chief, Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan, as saying.

What is your point? I'm saying they're developing the wrong thing.
a heavier helicopter means more stress on mechanical parts, so better alloys, more R&D and more time is required to for such a helicopter.

defense minister said this class of helicopters is the most wanted helicopter in Iran, so not a wrong thing definitely.

not in Iran but in all of the world , if they want to export t ,this is the class that they must invest in.

For export Iran needs Helo's of it's own designs + we also need the ability to provide logistical support for them!

This is a good Platform for civilian use & export but I would say we are at least 7-10 years away from being able to produce & provide logistical support for a 100% Iranian built export version.

What they showed is clearly a working prototype and it seems they are still working on adjusting it's avionics, flight control & fly by wire systems

Also for a country like Iran due to it's unhealthy relationship with the west exporting a Helo that doesn't use an Iranian Engine is going to be a problem because without it anyone who buys it would need logistical support from 2 different countries so until Iran starts producing Helo engines in such quantities that would satisfy the needs of both domestic & foreigner consumers, export is out of the picture.

It took them 10 years to take the J-85 jet engine from 70% to 100% Iranian built but that was mostly due to financial set backs and politics and it's the same thing here If funded properly PANHA is large enough & has enough expertise to produce it's own helo engine the main thing they lack like all things is proper funding that needs to come from the government
