The job of a translator is to translate, not prevaricate. Deliberate mis-translation leads to mis-communication and misinformed decision-making.

The Trump speech was being broadcast in plain English while he was translating, many Iranians know 2 or 3 languages which one of them is English and could understand his words by themselves .. if there was any intention to censor the speech there was no need to translate over his speech ..

soviet union used to work like this as well.. Thinking if they could only censor western propaganda, all would be fine. The only thing it did, was give a sense of intrigue and legitimacy to western propaganda.

Modern Russia is far faaaaar better at it. They let their people see western propaganda, make their own logical counter points and let people decide for themselves (and Russians are overwhelmingly seeing thru western propaganda given how strongly they support putin, and his actions in spite of economic warfare)

Iranian leadership should do the same. pulling this kind of crap off to shield the innocent ears of Iranians from American lies is counter productive. It makes it look like the government is scared of the americans message. It reduces peoples trust in state TV, and actually opens them up to more western propaganda by trying to find "Real news" on anti-government platforms...
