Iran Tourism

When thread is open than it is open for discussion. If there is insult for Pakistan than i don't care what was the intention.

There will be questions and mute response of Pakistanis shows almost every Pakistani on this forum is happy with this discrimination..
in post 9 you said

@OP do you intend to taunt Pakistanis, by opening this thread?

so I gave you the background... the question was asked in iranian movie thread by @Azizam and me

Do you now appreciate Mughal rule... as rich culture?

No one even mentioned Pakistan here my dear, you just jumped in the discussion and brought Pakistan in to it.
You have the right to comment here, but saying that 'Pakistan was insulted in this thread' is ridiculous, and you are derailing the thread I suppose. Stop it.

As I said, Iran and Pakistan are lagging behind in some fields of relations while people are friendly toward each other, and both governments are to be blamed, not just one side. My explanation was enough in previous post.

Speaking for myself I would love to visit Iran someday, its got such a rich culture and history. Its a pity I never got a chance to visit when I was living next door in Pakistan but still hopefully one day :)

So my questions are about:

- Whats the crime situation like for locals? for tourists?
- Whats the rule on taking pics and videos? is it generally allowed everywhere?

@Serpentine

Mate, this thread is ruined with off-topic discussions.

@Sam1980

You should post some pictures of Iran's main tourist attraction areas, hotels, historical sites, etc.

it means you need to have a visa beforehand.. no need to feel insulted.
offtopic but India does not give visa on arrival to any of these big countries like USA, UK, Russia but gives to finland, luxembourg, Indonesia. I dont understand the logic.

Tour Iran? Operators Hope So

At the top of the agenda of Iran’s new president, Hassan Rouhani, is fixing the country’s crumbling economy, and promoting international tourism is part of his solution.

Mr. Rouhani wants the number of foreign visitors to more than double, to 10 million from 4 million, each year, according to a report last month in The Washington Post. Such an increase, The Post reported Mr. Rouhani as saying, would “create jobs for 4 million people, solving the problem of 3.5 million unemployed people in this country.”

That goal is welcome news to Hamid R. Tavassoli, founder of Iranian Tours, a Tehran-based agency that runs guided trips to cities like Yazd and Shiraz.

“I believe the Iranian culture, nature, hospitality and infrastructure very well deserves a much larger number of tourists to visit the country,” he said.

Mr. Tavassoli said he credits Mr. Rouhani’s election in June for an increase in inquiries — double the number, he estimated, of last August — that he has received from foreign tourists, mostly from neighboring countries and from Europe.

Mr. Rouhani, a moderate cleric, has indicated that he is open to working with the outside world to lift the international economic restrictions connected to Iran’s nuclear program. The Iranian parliament’s recent confirmation of an American-educated diplomat as foreign minister suggested that Mr. Rouhani was moving forward in his campaign promise to engage with the United States.

The shift has led the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia, an educational organization, to resume tours to Iran, starting with a trip in April 2014. The organization had suspended such tours in 2011 after tensions between Iran and the United States escalated over the imprisonment of three American hikers who had been detained for two years on espionage charges, but who were later released that year.

Iran, once a popular stop along the overland “hippie” trail from Europe to India in the 1970s, has plenty to pique the interest of foreign tourists. It boasts 16 Unesco World Heritage sites, including the ruins of Persepolis dating to 518 B.C. and the 17th-century monumental arcades of Imam Square in Isfahan.

The renewed interest in Iran among Americans, however, is not shared by the United States State Department. When contacted last month by e-mail, the department noted its travel warning for Iran, which it updated on May 24. “Since 2009, Iranian authorities have prevented the departure, in some cases for several months, of a number of Iranian-American citizens,” the warning read. “Iranian authorities also have unjustly detained or imprisoned U.S. citizens on various charges, including espionage and posing a threat to national security.”

The United States government has not had diplomatic or consular relations with Iran since the hostage crisis, which began in 1979 and lasted for 14 months. The warning stated that the United States cannot provide protection or routine consular services to its citizens (the Swiss government serves as protecting power for United States interests in Iran).

The Government to Offer Cheap Tours to Iranian Expatriates to Explore Iran

The director of the Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Organization Mohammad-Ali Najafi says the Iranian government is planning to offer cheap tours to Iranian nationals living in foreign countries to explore Iran.

“About six millions of Iranians are currently living in countries other than Iran. Some of them have failed to visit Iran over the past few years for various reasons. At this time, we are working on a project to provide cheap tours to Iranian expatriates for exploring Iran,” Mohammad-Ali Najafi said in a press conference at Tehran.

Najafi believes that Iranians residing in other countries must visit Iran in order to contribute to the country’s tourism sector. “A large number of Iranians are unfortunately spending their money and time in neighboring Turkey. I’m confident that Iranians can get pleasure from traveling inside the country while enjoying full security,”

“In partnership with the consulates and embassies of Iran in the European countries, the Iranian government will start promoting tourism of Iran in near future,” Mohammad-Ali Najafi added.

According to the head of the Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organization, Iran has unlimited potential of attracting visitors and tourists from the European and American countries. “Europeans and Americans are always talking about their good time in Iran. Positive comments and reviews about Iran in social networking websites actually encourage many people to visit Iran,”

Mohammad-Ali Najafi also asked the privately-held companies and local tour operators to launch marketing campaigns in order to bring more visitors and tourists to Iran. “The Tourism Organization is completely ready to support the Iranian companies interested in investing in this field.”

Many European governments warn their citizens against traveling to Iran. Subsequently, the number of European and American tourists visiting Iran has decreased significantly over the past few years. Since the Iranian revolution in 1979, the majority of visitors to Iran have been religious pilgrims and businesspeople.
