Iran Plans Aircraft Carrier Build, Major Naval Upgrade

Iran is looking to add an aircraft carrier and possibly heavy submarines to bolster its navy.

Constructing an aircraft carrier is "among the goals" of the Iranian navy, a senior commander recently told FARS News Agency. The announcement could be a bluff, according to international analysts, due to the massive expense associated with aircraft carriers and how little strategic benefit they are increasingly seen to offer, especially to a country like Iran.

In 2014, Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari noted that Iran has the "capability" to construct aircraft carriers and heavy submarines. But despite Tehran’s claims of military prowess, these abilities cannot be corroborated by sources outside of Iran, the Times of Israel noted.

The US leads the pack globally in aircraft carriers, with 11. China, Brazil, France, India, Italy, Russia, Spain and Thailand are the only other sovereign militaries with claims to the sea-based landing strips. Earlier this month, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani signed an order allowing the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran to begin testing nuclear-powered propulsion mechanisms for Iranian submarines. The mandate was sent "in response to a violation" by the US of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action nuclear pact.

Great to have such plans. However, such plans will not come to fruition for at least another 1-2 decades. But it's important for them to start working towards them from now!
Iran should start to build a helicopter carrier and then move onto larger.

The heavier submarines should not take anywhere near the time as Iran already has experience in indigenous submarine developments such as Fateh and Besat.

Maybe you have problems with using logic or IQ issues.

Even if Iran started planning for such projects in 2011, 6 years is nothing. Even from Today Iran will still need 1-2 decades.
They indeed started consider such projects for few years now, but it seems now the projects are taking momentum due to the call for the development of nuclear propulsion engine.

Iran is already building a 7000 ton warship called Loghman. After that, 9000 ton class ships will also be made. So yes, Iran will certainly build such large ships years before any carrier is ready.

Zimbabwe is already designing and building aircraft carriers in the 100,000 ton range to further bolster our navy. Iran should follow our example and ask for technological transfer.
