Rouhani says #Iran is preparing to buy arms for 1st time when an embargo will be lifted in 2020 under the nuclear deal (2015). Based on JCPOA, a number of UN arms sanctions on Iran are supposed to be lifted by 2020 if the nuclear deal survives until that time. 1)
Rouhani: " .. if the JCPOA stays intact until next year, all the arms embargoes on #Iran will be lifted... which means we will be able to buy & sell any weapons. We are ready for next year to buy any weapons that we need and we have also done the initial preparation.." 2) (BBC)

What are your thoughts on that? Maybe fighters? Frigates and destroyers are or are gonna be made locally, same for Karrar tank, SAm systems and missiles.

I hope we don't buy recklessly. Spend the money into the country, develop the industry. I prefer to get join production lines for heavy aircrafts and generally stuff we really need and are too far out of our reach for the moment. We need tech transfer.

I heard some years ago that Iran would only buy fighters only if it could produce some of them in Iran, with technology transfers. Think that Pakistan with JF17 Block 3 or China could give this opportunity to Iran. More pessimistic on Russia.
:pop: You technically manufactrued every imaginable weapon what else you need:butcher:
Well, Iran produces itself MBT and begins to build Karrar ones, SAM systems, frigates, submarines, Khalij Fars destroyer is coming and manages (quite remarquably noticed by experts) to overhaul F14 and F4. All the Toofan MRAP and assault rifles also. But fighters cost a lot of money so i would bet on that, even thought the overhaul is impressive and missiles "compensate" the lack of new ones (even though modernized but with limits with Kowsar, Saeqeh...) and maybe, i said maybe because there is the Shahed 216 project on road, attack helicopters but heavy ones because Iran already produces light attack ones (Shahed 285) and modernized Toofan.

Invest in turkey pakistan malaysia join ventures
The easiest solution is joining with turkey, with ASELSAN iran may achieve advanced turret nad fire control tech and also land vehicles....
For fighher jet i would like SAAB Gripen .....if possible...
And jf17 block 3 won't be be a bad choice.... either

What happened to the Su35 deal? And the tanks that came with it?

Said countries would face sanctions, I believe.

Turkey military industry has already pretty much been blacklisted by NATO. They have been thrown out of the F-35 project. Not saying they will sign JVs but they really don't have much to lose given that they're already starting to orient to Russia. I think after acquiring the necessary components for their 5th gen fighter program they will begin to divest from NATOs MIC.

Yes, I just want to pivot off your point to say Turkey has been a U.S. ally, part of Nato but the CIA tried to overthrow their government just a couple of years ago...when that failed, they went after the Turkish currency to hurt them economically, these are the kind of missteps that makes the USA the bad guy in people's eye. The world is getting fed up with this kind of actions. Europe is distancing themselves from the U.S., China is setting itself up to counter the U.S. in every aspect. They've even managed to alienate Canada and Mexico....this is so retarded. In the world of global politics and strategy they get a solid "F"......you couldn't f*ck things up this bad even if you tried. Iran's revolution and hostage taking in 1979 led to the rise of Reagan and the Neocons, the same people that strted the disastrous wars in the M.E. which led to diminishing U.S.'s power and reach. They lost more than just the war, they lost trillions and they showed the world even a superpower can bleed. Now, with using the Dollar as a weapon in the Iran nuke deal their action has given rise to the next big downgrade in U.S.'s power INSTEX.....this mechanism is just in it's infancy but if this ever matures into a real thing....then the reign of the almighty dollar may be coming to an end....if that happens the power and prestige of the USA will take much more damage than the 2 Gulf wars caused it. Ironic how Iran has caused this superpower to change it's course to a course that will cause it great harm.

dassault rafale, jas 39 gripens and mirage 2000s.

Even if UN sanctions are lifted, US and EU sanctions on arms supplies to Iran will remain in effect. For example the EU ban on supply of any weapons to Iran valid until 2023 (8 years after JCPOA Adoption Day). But even if the JCPOA lasts until 2023, the US sanctions remain there, and problem, that European company often use American components and technologies. For example SAAB Grippen eqipped with US-licensed engines and any deliveries require the approval from the US.
