You need some serious reality check.
US has succeeded in Iraq; (1) removed Saddam from power and eliminated him, (2) tolerated Iraqi resistance, (3) installed a friendly government, (4) ensured that USD would remain the preferred reserve currency of Iraq, and (5) has plans for keeping some permanent military bases over there just like in Japan and Germany. In this manner, US can keep an eye on other players in the Middle-East.
The afghan conflict will continue till 2014. We will see what happens till that time. US is making a smart move by giving Taliban a representation in Afghan government. However, Al-qaeda network is in bad shape. and OBL is gone. So situation is not very hopeless.
Every nation is different from the other. I see no logic in these kinds of statements.
i agree to most.
usa invaded iraq to prevent an Islamic revolution in Iraq and this target it has already achieved. there was no other immediate reason for iraq invasion. Saddam was the rotten puppet and a risk and hence was removed. military bases, encirclement of iran, oil, etc. were secondary reasons. Taliban/alqaida are a new religion usa is imposing in this region and will continue to survive till usa exists in this region and after its withdrawal terrorists will be routed out by the people.
The encirclement of iran is now complete and usa is now preparing for a final assualt on iran using all of its allies and it even wants pak to shift its ballistic missles towards iran.
Taliban is a different kind of force. It has ideological rootes in the Afghan society. And Taliban has deep knowledge of Afghan territory. These advantages cannot be easily negated.
currently due to opposition to usa taliban are getting some support from people. once usa leaves the region then taliban era will be over. earlier too taliban failed to achieve support from masses and their survival depended on support from pakistan' isi. mainly pushtoons supported taliban while others rejected them.
Iran is idelogically better prepared than others for its defence and have better understanding of their landscape than others.
Iran mainly faced Iraqi military of the 1980s in combat during the Iran-Iraq war. However, Iraqi military showed better performance then Iranian military. It was the famed human wave tactics that worked in Iranian favor. Iranian bravey is certainly commendable. Unfortunately, huge number of muslims perished in that war and all that blood was lost in vain as the war resulted in a stalemate. Iran also briefly faced US military in combat during that war;
Operation Praying Mantis It seems as if Iran wanted to test US capabilities and the move seriously backfired. The OPM played a role in forcing Iran on the negotiation table with Iraq to end the war.
The best weapons that iranians had was the RPGs. iranian youths fought iraqis with RPGs. infact iran's army was ill-equipped as compared to iraqis. while iran's more focus was to preserve its strategic and critical assets. it tried to keep its airforce, navy and air defence infact. One of the pakistani brigadier who visited Iran during the second year of war was surprised to know that Iran didn;t used HAWK missles against iraqi fighter jets attacking iranian cities. He was told that these systems will only be used in case of attacks by the american airforce and hence they are keeping it safe.
Iran used war to achieve the following:
1. buildup and training of its military
2. self sufficiency
3. organizing iraqis for an islamic revolution
If there was no american involvement then for sure the war would have continued for few more years and would have ended in an Islamic revolution in Iraq. infact the main purpose of the usa invasion of Iraq was to zerorize the iranian investment in iraq and kill all possibilites of islamic revolution. The speeches of Imam Khomeini and Khamenei are very important and reveals the actual reason of usa invasion while the world only knows about a fake pretext of WMD. "......If saddam is given a chance he will attack again and will even attack others...."
