The airborne division of Iran’s Army Ground Force on Monday unveiled a series of homegrown equipment and achievements extending the capabilities of its helicopters.

In a ceremony in Tehran, high-ranking Army officials unveiled the latest achievements of the young experts serving in the Ground Force’s Airborne Unit.
The major item put on display in the event was a missile dubbed ‘Shafaq’ (Twilight), which is mounted on military helicopters.
The homegrown air-launched missile can hit targets within a range of 8 to 12 kilometers.

Another highlight of the ceremony was the launch of a program to equip all airborne unit choppers with night-vision cameras, which would enhance aircraft capabilities in nocturnal military missions.
Also highlighted at the event was the accomplishment of a plan to arm all reconnaissance, logistical and transportation helicopters of the unit with rocket-launchers and heavy machine guns.

Why does Iran paint its choppers like some infantile kids? Is this chopper meant for serious business or for entertainment?

I guess the Chinese FM-80 deal has such low quality missiles that they phased them out and replaced them with Iranian made Shahab Thagheb. 80's and early 90's Chinese gear is said to have low quality control.

So what to do with a missile that was prone to fail in high G SAM application but had a strong 8km booster and a 150mm diameter suited for a HEAT warhead? Rebuild the stockpile to ATGMs is a good choice. With lock-on after launch mode it can work out to 8km, a range that is regarded as long-range for ATGMs today.

A good way to safe money as it makes no sense to use high quality Shahab Thagheb airframes for low G ATGM application, would be a waste.

nose art has a long history in American aviation . the Iranian air force equipment and training still has strong American roots. so its not surprising to see some old cultural things that might have gotten adopted by iran are still continuing to this day.

The higher speed is a benefit against APS. However, the blunt nose will have it's penalty. In a man-in-the-loop mode, the missile should become slower to allow lock-on of the desired target. At 8km max. range the BGM-80 (hint to FM-80?) my stay supersonic, but it is at the edge and could as well be already subsonic.
So the question is if that kind of speed is sufficient to fool current and future APS.

Rebuilding old FM-80 and original AIM-9P to long range ATGMs is good. Remember, the dry climate of most regions in Iran allow the solid fuel motors to have extended life-time. It might be possible that the old, original Sidewinders were used for the IRGC variant, which otherwise would have been scrapped. Same with FM-80 which was said to be of low quality for high performance (SAM) application.

The question should always be: How large is the stock of obsolete weapons you want to scrap and can't we find a new life for them?

With solid fuel missiles you have a fixed burn time and you can NOT make the nose bigger and make it heavier by adding heavier warhead to a point that it cuts it's speed by over 60% without drastically effecting range!

And what makes you think Iran wants to scrap anything?

Sidewinders left from during the Shah are over 40 years old so if your refurbishing for supersonic applications fine but if your doing it for subsonic applications that seems a bit absurd to me!

Very interesting and probably expensive long range ATGM. Its a shame though that the Cobras are unable to carry much payload weight in general. Iran needs to work on their rotary engine technology.
