TEHRAN (FNA)- Tehran and Yerevan explored avenues for the further expansion of cultural relations between two friendly states.

The issue was raised in a meeting in Yerevan between Iran's Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Seyed Mohammad Hosseini and Armenia's Deputy Prime Minister and Regional Management Minister Armen Georgian on Saturday.

During the meeting, Georgian expressed pleasure with good Tehran-Yerevan ties and said that our relation has a very bright outlook.

He underlined that following up Iranian students' problems, cultural affairs, and bilateral relations are in the agenda of Armenian government.

Hosseini, for his part, said that cultural activities would consolidate political and economic ties, adding that with signing the cultural Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), artists from both countries can work on common cultural issues.

He added that this issue will help both nations to reach a better understanding from each other, which will lead to a reciprocal confidence.

He called for more facilities by Armenian government to issue visas for Iranian students.

Iran has long taken various diplomatic initiatives to expand its ties with the neighboring states.

Earlier in April, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi in a meeting with Armenian President Serzh Sargsian in Yerevan underlined the need for bolstering and reinvigorating relations between the two states.

During the meeting in the Armenian capital, the Iranian foreign minister pointed to the friendly ties between Tehran and Yerevan, and said, "There is a need for the further exploitation of the existing capacities in a bid to boost our mutual cooperation."

Salehi, who was in Armenia to attend the inauguration ceremony of President Sargsian, conveyed the felicitation message of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to his Armenian counterpart on the occasion of his reelection for a second five-year term.

In recent years, Iran and its Northern neighbor Armenia have boosted cooperation, signed agreements on energy cooperation and agreed to cooperate in technology and research and to enhance ties in commerce and economy.
